The Procedural Technologist performs a variety of technical, diagnostic, therapeutic and patient care tasks for patients with cardiovascular disease using radiological and cardiovascular sciences. The Technologist assists credentialed care providers in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures in a range of settings including the Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology Lab, and Vascular Lab.
Responsibilities And Scope
+ Assists physicians with obtaining digital radiographic images of heart, peripheral vessels and any other required structures.
+ Ensures room is prepared and stocked for the upcoming procedure. Sets up and prepares suite for upcoming procedures, including sterile trays, catheters, wires, contrast and other supplies needed as guided by the physician. Assists with routine inventory management tasks.
+ Verifies patient identification. Interviews patients to collect and document prior medical history.
+ Guides patients, some distressed, through their examination, applying subject matter expertise and cultural competency to explain the exam. Sets expectations and calmspatient for effective imaging.
+ Selectsappropriate scanning protocols and imaging parameters using extensive knowledge of human anatomy and pathology.
+ Inputs and organizes patient information and diagnostic images in both primary electronic medical recordkeeping (EMR) system and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
+ Performs daily quality checksfor procedural areas. Practices and ensures radiation safety per documented protocol. Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all, including the application of standard precautions and principles of infection control.
Qualifications
Hired candidates are expected to obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification after hire. Training and assessment opportunities will be provided.
Required
+ Completion of an accredited educational program in health science, including but not limited to: cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, nursing or paramedic/EMT.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred
+ Successful completion ofEKG / Arrhythmia course.
+ Experience working with a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) such as SYNAPSE or SECTRA
+ Experience working with electronic medical recordkeeping (EMR) system such as EPIC.
