Job Description
General Motors (GM) aims for Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion, and your role is essential to this vision. As part of this vision, GM is looking for a leader to drive our international sustainability strategy and program. This role focuses on strengthening regional sustainability capabilities, aligning internal and external expectations, and ensuring consistent progress toward GM’s long-term sustainability goals. This team member will lead sustainability professionals around the globe and develop key priorities and performance indicators for our international regions.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
+ Establish vision, strategy and priorities for GM sustainability activities outside North America, including priorities, connections, and goals.
+ Lead GM’s international sustainability team, including sustainability professionals in Brazil and supporting GM China.
+ Establish and lead cross-functional sustainability working group, consisting of leaders across GM International, to drive shared goals, insights and accountability to achieve our sustainability targets.
+ Gather and share insights and knowledge from regions to influence and guide global strategy and programs.
+ Contribute to the development of governance models, aligning KPIs, and integration of sustainability into business planning and decision making. Harmonize the sustainability processes across regions through knowledge sharing and implementation of common practices.
+ Partner closely with public policy, communications, product engineering and manufacturing to share insights and drive shared projects and goals.
+ Manage international stakeholder engagement, including employee engagement and partner / NGO engagements, in close collaboration with global stakeholder engagement lead and plan.
+ Serve as external spokesperson, thought leader, and ongoing sustainability expert for GM’s sustainability strategy, vision and related programs.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
+ Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Business, Sustainability, Science, or other related field.
+ Minimum 5 years of sustainability experience, ideally in multinational companies
+ Strong ability to influence and drive accountability across an enterprise.
+ Action Oriented, with a focus on innovation and leadership on environmental and social topics and broad corporate sustainability strategy, with ability to navigate strong headwinds with resilience and maintain optimism for direct team, enterprise and beyond.
+ Authentic commitment to the EV transition, a zero emissions future for GM, and a more sustainable world.
+ Willingness to travel 25% of the time.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
+ Master's degree in engineering or business administration
+ International Public Policy Experience
+ Experience working cross functionally across multiple teams
Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.
