Overview:
The Laboratory Assistant plays a vital role in the pathology workflow by ensuring accurate intake, documentation, and delivery of specimen cases. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with laboratory information systems.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Specimen Intake:
+ Receive packages from clients, each representing a new pathology case.
+ Verify that all required materials are present, including slides and wax blocks.
+ Ensure all specimens are fixed and safe for handling (no infectious pathogens).
+ Case Documentation:
+ Accurately enter case details into the Laboratory Information System (LIS), specifically EPIC Beaker.
+ Generate and print draft case documentation for review.
+ Case Assignment & Delivery:
+ Assign cases to the appropriate pathologist based on established protocols.
+ Ensure timely and secure delivery of case materials to the designated pathologist.
Qualifications & Skills:
+ Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
+ Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy in specimen handling and data entry.
+ Familiarity with EPIC Beaker or similar LIS platforms preferred.
+ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Educational Preferences:
+ High School Diploma or equivalent required.
+ Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (e.g., Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or Health Sciences) preferred.
+ Prior experience in a clinical or laboratory setting is a plus.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
