    Reports To: Survey Manager or Project Manager

     

    Employment Type: Full-Time

    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a skilled and experienced Land Surveying Crew Chief to lead field survey operations for a variety of projects including boundary, topographic, construction, and ALTA/NSPS land title surveys. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing a field crew, operating survey equipment, ensuring data accuracy, and coordinating with project managers and clients.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Lead and manage a field survey crew on various types of land surveying projects.

    + Operate and maintain survey instruments including total stations, GPS units, data collectors, and levels.

    + Perform field calculations and take accurate field notes.

    + Interpret and execute survey plans and instructions from project managers.

    + Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and applicable regulations.

    + Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams.

    + Train and mentor junior crew members.

    + Upload and process field data for office staff and assist with QA/QC as needed.

    + Travel to job sites as required, sometimes including overnight stays.

    Qualifications:

    + High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in surveying or related field preferred.

    + Minimum of 3–5 years of field surveying experience, with at least 1 year in a crew chief role.

    + Proficiency with survey equipment and software (e.g., Trimble, Leica, Carlson, AutoCAD Civil 3D).

    + Strong understanding of land surveying principles, methods, and legal standards.

    + Ability to read and interpret construction plans and legal descriptions.

    + Excellent organizational and communication skills.

    + Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

    + Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.

    Preferred Skills:

    + Experience with drone/UAV surveying and LiDAR technologies.

    + Familiarity with GIS systems and data integration.

    + Certifications such as CST (Certified Survey Technician) or SIT (Surveyor in Training) are a plus.

    Physical Requirements:

    + Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

    + Extended periods of standing, walking, and working outdoors.

    + Manual dexterity to operate survey equipment.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
