    About the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT):

    The Indiana Office of Technology provides cost-effective, secure, consistent, reliable enterprise-technology services to our partner agencies so that they can better serve our mutual customer, the Hoosier taxpayer. IOT will also act as the technology and solution enabler for the State, helping its partner agencies achieve business objectives and innovation.

    Role Overview:

    The Database Administrator Sr (DBA) supports SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases both on premise and in cloud environments (AWS, Azure) to ensure data integrity, security, and stability. You will provide computer resources and an up-to-date software environment for agency customers. Key outcomes for this role include:

     

    + Monitoring and tuning database performance.

    + Ensuring data is appropriately protected via database backup, Always On availability, and related strategies.

    + Loading, or assisting with loading, database software, upgrades, and patches.

    + Assisting with evaluating and selecting cloud database solutions as well as infrastructure components.

    + Providing operational support for the databases, ensuring data integrity, database availability, and performance.

    Salary Statement:

    The salary for this position traditionally starts at $70,122.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

     

    A Day in the Life:

    The essential functions of this role are as follows:

    + Database Management: Lead the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of complex database systems to ensure high availability and quality.

    + Performance Tuning: Develop and implement strategies for database performance tuning, and optimization of database systems, including indexing, query optimization, and resource management.

    + Backup and Recovery: Develop, manage, and enhance backup and recovery strategies to protect data integrity and availability.

    + Security: Implement and enforce robust database security measures, including access controls and monitoring for potential security breaches.

    + Data Integrity: Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across databases through regular audits, validations, and quality checks.

    + User Support: Provide advanced support to end-users, diagnose and resolve complex database-related issues on database-related issues and queries.

    + Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, policies, and procedures.

    + Collaboration: Work closely with developers, system administrators, IT staff, and other stakeholders to design and implement new database-related projects and initiatives

    + Compliance: Ensure compliance with database vendor license agreements and industry regulations.

    + Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior database administrators and other IT staff.

    What You'll Need for Success:

    The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either

     

    + a Master’s Degree and 1+ years of experience, or

    + a Bachelor's Degree and 3+ year of experience, or

    + an Associate's Degree and 5+ years of experience, or

    + at least 7+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.

     

    Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.

     

    + Expertise in database management and administration.

    + In-depth understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.

    + In-depth knowledge of database design, documentation, and coding.

    + Expertise in database backup, recovery, security, and integrity.

    + Extensive experience with database performance tuning and optimization.

    + Proficiency in database security best practices.

    + Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

    + Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

    + Leadership and mentorship capabilities.

    Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

    This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
