This role involves coordinating specimen collection, processing, shipment, storage, and management, while effectively communicating between clinical research project teams, clinical labs, clinical research units, sponsors, and research labs.
Responsibilities
+ Collect, track, process, and ship patient specimens for cancer clinical research trials, including blood, bone marrow, urine, stool, and tissue biopsies.
+ Manage schedules for sample collection as appropriate for studies.
+ Process samples according to each protocol's requirements.
+ Coordinate the transport of samples between the clinic, research laboratories, and outside laboratories or sponsors.
+ Ship samples following protocol requirements.
+ Communicate within the biospecimen team and with research teams, responding to email queries, tracking status updates on patient visits, and informing study teams about any questions or obstacles in the sample workflow.
+ Support laboratory and inventory management by unpacking and accessioning research kits and laboratory supplies, monitoring inventory, recycling expired kits, and organizing laboratory workspaces and storage spaces.
+ Maintain specimen inventory systems to ensure the status of each sample is known and documented, including entering kit preparation and processing data in the LabVantage LIMS system and recording sample processing and shipping information in Microsoft Excel.
+ Retrieve research study information from EPIC.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in specimen processing, sample preparation, and specimen collection.
+ Pathology experience is advantageous.
+ Hands-on experience handling biospecimen samples in a clinical setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High School Diploma with 3+ years of hands-on experience in a related role within a hospital setting.
+ Associate's Degree with 1+ year of hands-on experience in a related role within a hospital setting.
+ BS degree with an interest in gaining experience for medical school.
+ Experience in biospecimen processing, sample processing, phlebotomy, or as a vet tech is advantageous.
Work Environment
The position primarily operates within the Perelman Cancer Center's laboratory, with occasional visits to the hospital connected by a bridge for sample pick-up and drop-off. There is also another lab on campus that may require visits from time to time.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
