**Job Title:** Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator
Job Description
Operate, maintain, and repair the groundwater extraction, treatment, and recharge (GETR) system at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) in Oak Harbor, WA. Additionally, provide maintenance to the Area 6 Landfill Cap per contract requirements. Manage day-to-day operations, maintenance, monitoring, and management of the groundwater remediation system with the support of an onsite Project Manager for guidance and training.
Responsibilities
+ Provide periodic cleaning and maintenance of the air stripping tower, equalization tank, groundwater extraction wells, effluent discharge swale, and connecting piping.
+ Perform routine maintenance such as hydro jetting underground piping, groundwater well development and cleaning, pressure washing, cleaning/replacing filters, minor plumbing repairs, equipment lubrication, and electrical or SCADA troubleshooting.
+ Follow project plans to conduct tests and field investigations to obtain data for use by environmental, engineering, and scientific personnel in determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants in water and soil.
+ Maintain, calibrate, and utilize multi-parameter meters, such as water quality and air quality meters.
+ Collect samples from groundwater wells, surface water, raw and processed water, industrial wastewater, or other sources.
+ Collect soil or sediment samples and ship them to laboratories.
+ Conduct inspections and review institutional controls and maintenance requirements at facilities, including impervious covers, vegetated areas, fencing, signage, and shoreline condition.
Essential Skills
+ Repair, maintenance, and mechanical repair of pumps.
+ System operation and troubleshooting, including electrical, mechanical, and equipment maintenance.
+ Experience as a technician or mechanic working with piping, wastewater, and valves.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ 3+ years of experience in maintaining/repairing industrial systems with water pumps (e.g., wastewater, buildings, HVAC, industrial machines, ships, power plants, pumping stations).
+ 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certification
+ but not required.
+ Eligibility for a Navy DBIDS badge (base access).
+ Preferred: HAZMAT or Wastewater operator-related experience.
+ Preferred: Environmental testing or science background.

Work Environment
Work onsite in an office attached to a small pump station located right next to Gate 90 outside the fence of Naval Air Station Whidbey, near the landfill cap. The position requires residing within a reasonable driving distance to respond to issues if needed. Collaborate with an onsite Project Manager, other Environmental Technicians, and occasionally technicians from Kitsap/Bangor. The role involves a day shift from Monday to Friday, with tasks split between office work and driving to plants or pumps throughout the grounds, some of which are 20 minutes away. Expect to stand and walk more than 50% of the time. A company truck is available onsite.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.32 - $33.32/hr.
