    As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be a technical leader driving the architecture, strategy, and execution of next-generation workplace experiences. You will lead the design and development of **AI-integrated platforms** that **unify mobile and web UX** , enabling seamless, personalized, and context-aware interactions across all employee touchpoints. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to define and deliver solutions that scale across Microsoft’s global footprint, while mentoring and guiding senior engineers to achieve technical excellence.

     

    This position is based at the Redmond campus, with 3 days per week in the office and 2 days per week work from home. Relocation assistance is available.

    Responsibilities

    + You will define and drive the technical vision for intelligent workplace platforms that span mobile, web, and physical environments.

    + You will architect and develop scalable, resilient, and secure enterprise services using modern frameworks and cloud technologies.

    + You will lead the integration of **AI/ML capabilities** into user-facing applications to enable predictive, adaptive, and personalized experiences.

    + You will champion a unified **cross-surface UX strategy** , ensuring consistent and intuitive interactions across mobile and web platforms.

    + You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver features that enhance employee productivity and workplace accessibility.

    + You will analyze telemetry, environmental data, and user behavior to inform design decisions and optimize system performance.

    + You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineering teams to align technical solutions with business goals.

    + You will mentor and grow engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

    + You will partner with Microsoft Digital and product leadership to align technical strategies with business goals.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in C#, ASP.NET, MVC, Web API, and ReactJS/AngularJS

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + 3+ years in technical leadership roles.

    + 3+ years experience in mobile development, including React Native, Swift, Kotlin, or Xamarin, with a focus on cross-platform UX

    + Experienced architecting and delivering scalable cloud-native applications on Azure or equivalent platforms.

    + Experienced with Generative AI, including building and deploying applications using Azure OpenAI, Copilot Studio, or equivalent platforms.

    + Experienced developing intelligent agents and Copilot extensions, including plugin development and orchestration of multi-agent workflows.

    + Experienced integrating AI/ML models into enterprise applications.

    + Experienced with software architecture, distributed systems, and data platforms (ex: SQL, NoSQL).

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experienced integrating AI/ML models into mobile applications.

    + Experience with Microsoft Graph, Azure Cognitive Services, or other AI APIs.

    + Experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems with high availability, performance, and security requirements.

    + Familiarity with enterprise telemetry, observability, and performance optimization in cloud-native environments.

    + Contributions to open-source projects or published research in AI or software engineering.

    + Familiarity with Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices at scale.

    + stakeholder engagement skills.

     

    Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
