    Cosmos DB is a database of choice for the spectrum spanning from the hobbyist developer to the largest of Fortune 500 companies. The database provides the data backbone of many critical systems in Health Care, Retail, Telecommunications, IoT etc. where the Service Availability and Latency is paramount. Cosmos DB provides financially backed SLA (service level agreements) around 99.99 Availability and < 10 MS Latency, and we take pride in running service at scale. As a foundational Azure service, Cosmos DB service has a footprint that spans every Azure region. The team prides itself on building innovative reliable solutions in the core data plane path to support and balance customer dynamic growth across regions and clouds.

     

    We are looking for a Software Engineer II who is passionate about cloud databases and who likes taking data driven decisions and building innovative solutions to support the business growth. You will be responsible for building and optimizing solutions to build Cosmos DB services at scale. You will collaborate with engineers on the team and across services in Azure to architect, design and implement reliable, low-latency solutions for building Cosmos DB services. You will work across the stack to convert vision into a high quality, shipped feature.

    Responsibilities

    + Design, develop and maintain high scale services that form the backbone of Cosmos DB.

    + Dive deep into Azure technologies and distributed database systems.

    + Collaborate with partners, internal and external to Azure Cosmos DB organization, to design and build features that drive service growth.

    + Influence and create new designs, architectures, standards and methods for large-scale distributed systems.

    + Build reusable libraries of services best practices for other teams to leverage.

    + Work in a culture of continuous improvement, adaptation, reflection, and growth.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience.

    + 2+ years of experience designing, developing reliable engineering systems, and/or infrastructure.

    Other Requirements:

    + Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

    + Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Preferred demonstrated experience with Azure technologies (or other cloud computing platforms) and distributed database systems.

    + Drive to improve performance, availability and supportability of services.

    + Drive to increase efficiencies through automation.

     

    Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
