    Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Immunology and Respiratory Discovery Group in Research Department at our US headquarters in Ridgefield, CT. The Ridgefield campus, along with our sister sites in Texas and California, includes a thriving community of postdocs and PhD students that connects globally with their peers on our European campuses. The main responsibility of this position is to support biomarker discovery and disease positioning efforts through the computational analysis of multi-omic spatial biology datasets to characterize the progression of human disease and the relationship with the biology of therapeutically relevant proteins and pathways. This will involve the evaluation, implementation, and integration of spatial analysis algorithms, and development of computational workflows to manage the resulting data.

     

    As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will be responsible for conducting independent research under the direct guidance of an experienced Principal Investigator and further supported by a team of experts committed to your success. You will interact with a diverse range of individuals (including mentors, fellow researchers, students, and collaborators from various institutions), and help to foster a collaborative research environment that facilitates exchange of knowledge and ideas. Your research will be focused on fundamental scientific questions and new methodologies that align with the goals of the department and contribute to Boehringer-Ingelheim’s innovative and growing pipeline. You will be expected to present your work to internal leadership and, ultimately, publish your findings in leading journals within the field. Postdoctoral Fellowships are three-year positions, with a potential one-year extension.

     

    Duties & Responsibilities

    With support from their advisor and team, the ideal candidate is expected to:

    + Design and conduct their own independent research project(s).

    + Collaborate with other researchers within and outside Boehringer Ingelheim.

    + Effectively communicate and defend their own work in the context of team and department goals, both orally and in writing.

    + Establish an international reputation in your area of expertise with publications and conference participation at national and international events.

    + Publish first-author manuscript(s) and/or patenting of novel technologies/processes.

    + Independently performs scientific experiments with a predefined goal including developing new methodologies, protocols and or test procedures that contribute to core group/research goals and reflect expert knowledge;

    + Develops an understanding of R&D team goals and works effectively toward achieving them; Either assumes departmental responsibility for projects when necessary OR has ability to participate as representative on multiple project teams and contribute to defining expertise-related aspects of overall program goals

    + Prepares clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations. Independently communicate results in the form of reports and or presentations; Presents responsibly and defends own work at meetings; May deliver updates to senior level management in context of overall project goals

    + Develops expertise in a specific project-relevant area OR technology; May provide guidance and expertise to advance specific projects OR evaluate and propose new technologies and concepts in support of multiple projects.

    + Keeps abreast of relevant literature; Develops visibility outside of functional area

    + Assumes responsibility for direct reports as needed including recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing scientific staff

    + Complies with all applicable regulations; Ensures that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies

    + Contributes to departmental administration; Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technology, external collaborations, and travel

    Requirements

    + Ph.D. degree in related discipline, with a preference of no more than three (3) years of previous Post Doctoral experience

    + Must exhibit high competency programming in Python or R and using computational biology tools to perform high dimensional data analysis

    + Desirable to have prior experience in the field of spatial biology, systems biology or quantitative image analysis

    + Should demonstrate working knowledge of techniques such as multiplex immunohistochemistry and in-situ hybridization

    + Extensive experience in area of scientific expertise.

    + Ability to think and plan strategically as well as tactically.

    + Creativity and innovation in driving cutting-edge research with a strong publication record.

    + Ability to independently conduct a research project and effectively communicate the results.

    + Experience in data analysis.

    + Ability to optimize and develop assays/techniques, as well as leverage new technology opportunities to address scientific questions.

    + Exceptional writing, presentation, and communication skills.

    + Ability to comply with all applicable regulators, performing all work in a safe manner; maintain proper records in accordance with SOP's and policies.

    + Familiarity with immunology, auto-immune and auto-inflammatory diseases is desirable

    **Eligibility Requirements** :

    + Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

    + Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).

    + Must be 18 years of age or older.

     

    Compensation Data
