POSITION SUMMARY:
Refinery Value Chain Optimization has an opening for the position of Refining Planning and Economics Manager in its Planning & Economics group within the North Refinery Value Chain Optimization Team, located in Robinson, IL. This position will report directly to the North Value Chain Optimization Director and will be required to plan, manage, and direct engineers and schedulers in production planning and scheduling, economic evaluations, and optimization of refinery performance.
This position interfaces heavily with other departments, organizations and third parties, requiring strong interpersonal and communication skills. Other responsibilities include implementing and providing guidance on corporate-wide and refinery-wide directives and goals; improving work efficiencies and effectively managing resources, and evaluating and fostering the technical and career development of direct reports.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Directs planning team in optimization of the refinery’s feed and product slate and operations to maximize refinery profitability. The position is the key representative of the VCO group inside the refinery, so they must be able to explain the basis of production plans to a wide audience, and work with managers/supervisors to optimize the system including the Robinson refinery.
+ This candidate will ultimately be responsible for the creation and implementation of the short-term production plan.
+ Communicates, provides guidance, implements, and supports the adoption of corporate-wide and refinery-wide policies and programs.
+ Supports and advises engineers and schedulers on modifying operating plans in response to capacity limitations, product quality, constraints, and equipment failures.
+ Provides group personnel with the necessary tools and resources to accomplish department goals, including engaging other Marathon divisions to facilitate resolution of complex issues.
+ Works closely with other Commercial organizations to minimize customer supply disruptions and maximize profitability for MPC.
+ Communicates expectations to personnel, evaluates individual performance versus expectations to determine the areas of strength and opportunities for improvement and appraises personnel of their performance status in a timely manner.
+ Prepares status and progress reports for management and communicates accomplishments and concerns to management.
+ Coaches and mentors team members in development of communication and interpersonal skills, so that appropriate work relationships can be developed with customers, contractors, and other work associates.
+ Develops and manages a training plan using work assignments and training opportunities to continuously improve technical skills.
+ Participates in the management of department staffing, including recruiting interviewing and selection of candidates.
+ Communicates refinery operations to other Commercial organizations and ensures Refinery Leadership Team understands production forecasts, economic drivers and key initiatives.
+ Works with Regional Planning team to provide insight to operating constraints, TAR planning and project economics as necessary.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline required.
+ Five (5) years of refining experience in Technical Services, Commercial, and/or Economics & Planning required.
