    Working under the direction of the MRI Manager, MRI Supervisor, and MRI Clinical Director, the Lead MRI Technologist (LMT) is responsible for performing all technical procedures within MRI as described in the DFCI Imaging Policy and Procedure Manual along with enhanced duties and responsibilities (e.g., regulatory/accreditation activities, QA/QI/QC, technical audits, managing supplies, training/educational activities, etc.). The Lead MRI Technologist is responsible for the delivery of safe and effective imaging procedures, participation in departmental education programs, participation in organizational and departmental goals and priorities, and active involvement in Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) activities. Each MRI Technologist position requires a close working relationship with Imaging professionals, nursing, and technical staff, administrative support staff, as well as with providers, investigators, and their staff at the Longwood and Chestnut Hill campuses. The LMT technologist will work with stakeholders, peers, and leaders to create and sustain a culture that fosters excellence, impact, and discovery of innovative and novel approaches towards the eradication of cancer and related diseases.

    + Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures; fosters communication and collaboration among the clinical, technical, and support staff; ensures that business and patient information is properly handled according to HIPAA guidelines.

    + Maintains and ensures patient, staff, and environmental safety; maintains proper infection control; maintains orderliness and cleanliness in the workplace and self; demonstrates an understanding of all MRI safety issues and follows safety procedures to ensure patient safety.

    + Ensures all appropriate regulatory, accreditation, and institutional requirements are met, and participates in departmental and institutional QA/QI programs.

    + Communicates relevant information in a compassionate and professional manner to patients undergoing procedures, ensures that all patients have a thorough understanding of the procedures to be performed, assists with various operational duties such as monitoring patient flow while utilizing the scheduling and EMR systems.

    + Under the direction of the MRI Manager/Supervisor, the LMT technologist performs all technical procedures within MRI obtaining high-quality patient scans; is involved with and performs all technical protocol duties as required for departmental research; establishes intravenous access; administers imaging contrast agents in accordance with applicable regulatory accreditation (e.g., ACR) and as directed by protocol under the supervision of the radiologist; ensures that all imaging systems operate at levels of accepted standards and are properly maintained, and if necessary takes corrective action; performs required quality control on all imaging equipment and devices; performs computer acquisitions and analysis as required; manages imaging datasets (e.g., transfer, archive, and retrieval); maintains all necessary records and reports in a correct, timely, and efficient manner.

    + Participates in the orientation, training, and sharing best practices with new technologist staff as well as serving as a resource to assist in the onboarding of other staff such as Program Administrators, Fellows, Residents, students, and other imaging staff.

    + Performs all other duties and responsibilities as directed.

    + Working under the direction of the MRI Manager and Supervisor, and in collaboration with other technical and support staff, the LMT serves as a subject matter expert (SME) of MRI imaging and a point person for technical related activities, operational logistics, assists with staffing schedule, same-day add-on requests, and ensuring QA/QI/QC activities are completed in a timely manner.

    + Maintains competency in performing all clinical duties and responsibilities across both Longwood and Chestnut Hill campuses.

    + Manages time between clinical responsibilities and additional tasks specific to the LMT:

    + Upkeep of routine QC/QA activities

    + Adjustments to staffing schedule as needed

    + Coordination of training to maintain technical competencies

    + General MRI procedures

    + QC and operation of other ancillary equipment

    + Regulatory and accreditation compliance activities

    + Change implementation (e.g., new equipment, workflows)

    + Other tasks as needed/directed

    + Serves as a back-up resource and assists the MRI Manager and Supervisor with daily operation, communicating with vendors and suppliers, coordinating patient appointments with providers and clinic staff, and synchronizing support from other teams.

    + Associate's degree required in science related field.

    + Bachelor's degree preferred.

    + 2 years of experience as an MRI Technologist required.

    + Current ARRT (RT-MR) or ARMRIT (RT-MR, ARMRIT) registration at the time of hire or must obtain within 1 year of hire.

    + Current BLS certification or must obtain an active BLS certification within 90-days of hire.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    + Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.

    + Knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.

    + Strong customer service skills and professional interaction.

    + Maintain confidentiality; detail-oriented; organized; able to work independently and in a team environment.

    + Ability to serve as an SME and point of contact for operational and technical questions.

    + Ability to develop training and onboarding materials; procure required supplies and create requisitions/purchase orders as needed.

    + Ability to respond to staff and patient needs, position patients, and manipulate imaging equipment.

    + Ability to work with patients requiring assistance (stretcher transfers, wheelchair transport, positioning).

     

    Pay Transparency Statement

     

    The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

     

    For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

     

    $58.97/hr - $77.22/hr
