Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Customer Service Representative to join our Solid Waste Division. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for residents and businesses with inquiries related to garbage, recycling, yard waste, and special waste collection and disposal services.
You’ll provide accurate, timely information regarding services, fees, policies, and procedures, while also serving as a liaison between customers and service providers. This position requires a solid understanding of County Solid Waste Ordinances and Franchise Hauler Contracts, and provides vital administrative support to the division.
Duties and Responsibilities
+ Serve as the primary contact for customer inquiries and complaints related to garbage, recycling, yard waste, and special waste services.
+ Provide clear and accurate information on service availability, billing, fees, and policies.
+ Interpret and apply County Solid Waste Ordinances and Franchise Hauler Contracts when resolving service issues.
+ Create and track Requests for Action (RFA) with haulers or Solid Waste Environmental Specialists.
+ Assist customers with the Construction and Demolition (C&D) recycling process, including navigating required documentation.
+ Support walk-in customers by determining applicable fees, explaining services, and processing transactions.
+ Handle requests for special accommodations, including initiating and coordinating back-door collection services for residents with medical disabilities.
+ Work closely with the Solid Waste Environmental Inspector on service-related issues and investigations.
+ Perform a variety of administrative tasks, including:
+ Answering and routing calls
+ Data entry and report generation
+ Maintaining organized records and files
+ Drafting, proofreading, and assembling documents
+ Operating standard office equipment (e.g., copier, scanner, computer, phone system)
Education, Experience, Licensing
Education & Experience:
You need any combination of education and experience that is equal to:
+ High school diploma or GED required.
+ One year of experience in a fast-paced, professional customer service role or similar field.
Licensing:
+ Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Skills & Abilities:
+ Excellent customer service skills; courteous and professional communication.
+ Ability to listen actively and respond clearly to customer needs.
+ Strong attention to detail, especially with data entry and recordkeeping.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
+ Comfortable interpreting and explaining policies and procedures to the public.
+ Capable of performing basic math for service charges and handling cash transactions.
+ Ability to manage time effectively and work both independently and as part of a team.
+ Maintains confidentiality and uses sound judgment.
Work Environment:
This is an in-office position involving frequent interaction with the public, use of office equipment, and occasional lifting or handling of office materials.
