About this Job
This position serves as a Coastal Resources Scientist within the Thibodaux Regional Office of the Operations Division at the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA). The incumbent performs journeyman scientific/environmental and other technical work in support of an important segment, developing and implementing scientific/technical ecosystem monitoring and management procedures, of the CPRA’s overall coastal restoration and hurricane flood protection program.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Independently develops and executes site-specific environmental monitoring and management plans for coastal restoration and hurricane flood protection projects, including field reconnaissance, feasibility analysis, and preparation of detailed scientific reports for agency and stakeholder use.
+ Applies advanced environmental data collection technologies and data management tools to track project effectiveness, maintain comprehensive data inventories, and support intergovernmental coordination within CPRA’s coastal protection initiatives.
+ Supports oversight of scientific monitoring efforts for large-scale coastal restoration and flood protection projects, including programs like CRMS and feasibility studies, ensuring data quality and alignment with project goals.
+ Assists in developing objective, science-based methods for evaluating and recommending ecosystem management strategies using environmental data, cost-benefit, and risk analysis models, while providing technical review of project documentation.
+ Conducts scientific evaluations of coastal and natural resource conditions using statewide monitoring data, prepares technical reports and maps for stakeholders, and reviews project documents to ensure accuracy while advising on projects with significant environmental or legal impacts.
+ Represents CPRA’s Operations Division at public and professional events, assists with special projects as assigned, and participates in extensive in-state travel—often under challenging conditions—with occasional out-of-state travel required.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Coastal Resources Scientist 1, Coastal Resources Scientist 2, or Coastal Resources Scientist 3 depending on level of experience.

Compensation: The maximum salary for the Coastal Resources Scientist 3 is $84,136 annually.
There are special bi-weekly entrance rates established for this position:
Coastal Resources Scientist 1 $1,672.80
Coastal Resources Scientist 2 $1,789.60
Coastal Resources Scientist 3 $2,036.80
