    DESCRIPTION :

    This is a highly responsible position within the Office of Inspector General. The incumbent performs complex investigations and inquiries of administrative, civil rights, and Whistle Blower Act allegations that impact the Department of Juvenile Justice. The incumbent prepares carefully researched, thoroughly documented, and factually precise reports of investigations to be used by department managers, law enforcement, and other authorities in the resolution of these matters. This position requires travel and therefore the incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license.

     

    Conducts investigations and prepares written investigative reports and inquiries into allegations made against department personnel and providers of the Department of Juvenile Justice. This includes interviewing and interrogating department employees, provider employees, offenders, and persons outside the agency to gather facts and information.

     

    Independently plan and manage a caseload to prioritize work assignments based on the seriousness of the allegation, timeliness of reporting, and needs of the department.

     

    Liaison with and coordinate criminal investigations with the local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and other organizations.

     

    Respond as directed to serious incidents or as directed by the Inspector General, Chief of Investigations, or Investigations Coordinator.

     

    Attends all mandatory training associated with the tasks required of this position.

     

    Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.

     

    Knowledge of investigative techniques.

     

    Ability to conduct fact-finding research and interviews and take statements.

     

    Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

     

    Ability to conduct operational reviews to ensure efficiency of operations and compliance with applicable policies and procedures.

     

    Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data.

     

    Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials.

     

    Ability to use deductive reasoning.

     

    Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

     

    Ability to work independently and make independent decisions.

     

    Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

     

    Ability to communicate effectively.

     

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

     

    Ability to travel.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    At least three years’ experience conducting criminal or administrative investigations.

     

    Experience authoring professional investigative reports which document administrative/internal or criminal investigations.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Experience working in an environment where you must keep confidentiality.

     

    A bachelor's degree.

     

    Professional or non-professional experience can substitute on a year for year basis for the bachelor's degree.

     

    Experience working for a law enforcement agency, correctional facility or facility that handles juvenile offenders.

     

    Ability to Travel.
