The Work You Will Do:
Digital Printing Specialist – Sign Shop Maintenance
This position will assist in designing roadway signs and stencils using engineering plans while ensuring compliance with the Standard Highway Signs Manual. Operate sign-making digital software and equipment to produce sign faces, logos, and legends, and maintain related machinery. Perform various sign shop functions, including preparing materials, applying sheeting, screen printing, assembling signs, and packaging for shipment. Additional duties include unloading materials, producing delineators, maintaining the shop and equipment, and performing other related tasks as needed.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Assist in the design of new roadway signs using engineering plans and drawings. Assist in the design of stencils and ensure conformity with the Standard Highway signs manual. Compare submitted drawings and plans with the standard Highway signs Manual.
Utilize sign cutting software, Digital copier and rip programs to provide legends, sign faces and logos for the sign manufacturing process. Oversee calibration, operation, and maintenance of the plotter, digital copiers, Engravers and computer software. Organize computer files for all manufactured signs.
Perform any of the three separate functions of the sign shop depending upon need and production.
Prepare substrate materials for sign blanks, shearing material to size, rounding corners, either by hand or machine; set-up and punch mounting holes; set-up and operate squeeze roller and apply sheeting to blanks.
Prepare silk screens by using either one arm squeegee or operate the semi-automatic squeegee in the silk screen process and set up-screens. Place finished screened signs in drying racks and wash used screens when finished. Extract signs from racks by quantities on requisition and pack for shipping. Place slip sheeting between each sign and bind signs to pallet with strapping. Load signs on trucks using forklift.
Prepare and build handmade signs by placing cut letters and symbols on sign blanks and stacking completed signs to await shipment. Lay out mileage and destination signs using established criteria for size and letter placement.
Unload new material using forklift. Stack new materials by size and thickness.
Make delineators and produce other related items.
Clean and maintain the shop area. Assist in the maintenance and repair of shop equipment.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
+ Sign manufacturing process and operations;
+ The silk screening process;
+ Proper equipment and techniques for various tasks;
+ Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Software;
+ Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) sign design standards and policies.
Skills in:
+ The use of machinery and equipment (punch press, shear, hand and power tools, and forklift);
+ Use of personal computers and mainframe computers for sign design, spreadsheets, email and other functions;
+ Placing cut out letters and symbols on sign blanks;
+ Filling requested orders;
+ Handling multiple tasks;
+ Meeting deadlines.
Ability to:
+ Follow oral and written instructions;
+ Add, subtract, multiply and divide;
+ Maintain accurate records;
+ Load and unload and store stock;
+ Communicate technical information verbally and in writing;
+ Apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;
+ Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
+ Maintain the cleanliness of department facility.
