Job Description
General Scope of Duties
Provide direction, leadership and coordination of custodial work activities to maintain a clean and attractive environment for the Connecticut College community. Perform routine inspections to ensure quality and APPA standards are met and enforced throughout campus. Provide training and follow up to ensure cleaning operations are standardized throughout the department. Maintain equipment inventory and ensure custodial cleaning closets are stocked and maintained appropriately and to applicable Federal, State, and Local standards. Provide event support as directed.

+ Supervise, train, and develop custodial work leaders and custodians.
+ Provide direction to ensure departmental cleanliness protocols and standards are maintained and standardized while regularly inspecting spaces to ensure cleaning activities meet established standards.
+ Train employees on safe operation of equipment and use of chemicals.
+ Maintain inventories, including equipment; follow department protocols for ordering supplies and equipment, as well as equipment maintenance and repairs.
+ Ensure all work complies with federal, state and local requirements/regulations and College policies and procedures.
General Duties and Responsibilities
+ Supervise custodial support of campus events and other special services and be physically present for high profile events such as Commencement, Alumni Reunion weekend, student move-in, parents’ weekend, etc.
+ Monitor employee attendance and performance
+ Coordinate employee work schedules to ensure that manpower needs are satisfied and cleaning/maintenance schedules are followed
+ Other duties as assigned or as necessary.
+ Work schedule is typically 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday – Friday. May be required to shift hours as needed to ensure standards and training are uniformly enforced throughout the department. Required to be available at other times as needed in order to ensure proper support for campus events.
Education and Skills
+ Requires high school diploma and 2 – 5 years of progressively responsible custodial experience as a custodial work leader, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
+ Strong written & verbal communication skills, ability to speak, read, and write English and keep written and computer records.
+ The ability to speak Spanish is desirable.
+ Strong analytical skills.
+ Must be detail oriented.
+ Well-organized, able to work under pressure.
+ Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all areas of the college and community.
+ Knowledge of cleaning equipment, supplies and chemicals.
+ High integrity needed to handle confidential information.
