The Role:
Xylem is seeking an Enterprise Data Architect to design and guide the evolution of our enterprise-wide data architecture across both legacy and modern cloud platforms. In this role, you’ll define scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions that enable advanced analytics, reporting, and AI/ML capabilities across the organization. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional IT and business teams to ensure that data is managed as a strategic asset—supporting Xylem’s mission of solving water through digital innovation.
Core Responsibilities:
Enterprise Data Architecture Design
- Develop and maintain an enterprise-wide data architecture framework spanning data integration, modeling, storage, access, and governance.
- Architect solutions across modern cloud platforms (Azure, Databricks) and enterprise applications (SAP, Salesforce, Dynamics).
- Lead integration of legacy systems (Oracle, Cognos, ECC, Business Objects) with modern architectures to support digital transformation.
- Define data flows, semantic models, and architecture blueprints supporting analytics and AI/ML initiatives.
Collaboration Across Architecture and Business Domains
- Partner with Application, Infrastructure, Security, and Network architects to align solutions with enterprise standards and compliance requirements.
- Engage with IT and business leaders to capture requirements and ensure architecture supports both operational and strategic goals.
- Serve as an architectural advisor for enterprise modernization programs involving ERP, CRM, and cloud platforms.
Governance, Standards, and Lifecycle Management
- Establish and enforce data modeling standards, naming conventions, and integration patterns across platforms.
- Support data governance initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory and enterprise data policies.
- Ensure architecture accounts for lifecycle management, metadata, lineage, security, and retention strategies.
Cloud & Platform Enablement
- Design and guide implementation of Lakehouse architectures leveraging Databricks and Azure components (ADF, Data Lake, Synapse).
- Support ingestion and modeling of structured and semi-structured data from SAP Datasphere, Salesforce, and Dynamics.
- Optimize design for scalability, performance, and cost efficiency using native cloud services and automation.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture across both legacy and cloud-native environments.
- Expertise across:
• SAP (S/4HANA, ECC, Datasphere)
• Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Lakehouse)
• CRM Platforms (Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics)
• Legacy BI & DBMS (Oracle, Cognos, Business Objects, SAP BW)
• Azure Data Services (ADF, Data Lake, Synapse, Azure SQL)
Technical Proficiencies:
- Integration Patterns: Batch, streaming, APIs, OData, SAP connectors, JDBC/ODBC, REST
- Modeling Techniques: Dimensional, normalized, data vault, star/snowflake schema
- Architecture Domains: OLTP/OLAP systems, MDM, data virtualization
- Security & Compliance: RBAC, encryption, data masking, GDPR, HIPAA
- DevOps & Automation: GitHub, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines for data deployment
- Observability: Azure Monitor, Databricks observability, lineage tracking
Preferred Certifications:
- Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Data Engineer Associate
- SAP Certified Technology Specialist (Datasphere, HANA)
- Databricks Certified Architect
- TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification
