A Brief Overview
Is accountable to maintain special order supplies for the department and other areas of focus. Audits quality measures to prevent hospital acquired infections. Provides direct care for the comfort, safety and personal needs of pediatric patients under the direction and supervision of the RN in times of high census. Varied schedules to include weekend and holiday patterns.
Essential Functions
+ Monitors and maintains appropriate levels of supplies and equipment to include:
+ Collaborating with hospital purchasing staff in purchasing patient care and non-patient care supplies/equipment, according to purchasing guidelines. Keeps clinical manager informed of progress throughout the purchasing process.
+ Ordering supplies/linen by working cooperatively with hospital purchasing department.
+ Oversees the receiving, distribution and stocking of supplies/equipment and ensures charges go to the correct area.
+ Overseeing supply areas of the unit to include stocking areas as appropriate, organization/quantity of supplies, maintaining established par levels, ensuring supplies are marked for charging and returning overstocked/unused items for credit.
+ Coordinating timely purchase of routine special order items, to include ensuring that they are marked appropriately for patient charge.
+ Overseeing equipment’s availability in patient rooms and on the unit by ensuring equipment is properly stored, taking initiative to clean equipment and ensure preventative maintenance stickers are within date, and follows up equipment maintenance needs.
+ Maintaining unit environment i.e. keeping hallways clear of equipment/obstructions.
+ Communicating unit environment, supply, equipment needs to clinical manager.
+ Functions in the role of a flex Certified Nursing Assistant providing individualized* age-specific patient/family care, performing and/or assisting with area tests and patient care procedures as delegated by the RN, and under the supervision of the charge nurse. Adhering to hospital policies and procedures, provides individual patient cares according to the plan of care, delegated tasks and physician orders. (*Individualized refers to the patient’s developmental, cognitive, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual and education/family influences and physician/ medical care needs.)
+ Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate care for infant, toddler, preschool, school age and adolescent patients.
+ Utilizes patient/family input in delivering individualized patient care.
+ Completes delegated tasks in an appropriate time frame, based on patient needs such as vital signs, intake/output, height/weight/head circumference measurements, ADL’s, preparing for patient arrival/discharge, transports, tests and assists RN/MD with procedures.
+ Participates with the multidisciplinary team in providing feedback/input into the patient/family care needs.
+ Sets and revises priorities based on patient care urgency, patient/family/staff requests, other department demands/schedules, utilizing available resources as necessary. Audits central line bundle compliance:
+ Performs real time central line access audits
+ Monitors overall central line bundle compliance
+ Completes safety sweeps Documentation reflects patient care provided.
+ Documentation is completed within the established time frames.
+ Documentation is accurately completed in appropriate EPIC flowsheets.
+ Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section
Education Qualifications
+ High School Diploma or GED equivalent Required
Experience Qualifications
+ Experience as a nursing assistant with pediatric patients Preferred
Skills and Abilities
+ Knowledge and experience in basic computer skills preferred.
+ Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritization skills.
+ Must have effective verbal, written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Licenses and Certifications
+ BCLS - Basic Life Support through American Heart Association Required and
+ Current and valid Nurse Aide registry in the State of NE or IA depending on state of residence Required
