Job Summary
The Cook is responsible for the production of all food served to assigned locations by preparing a variety of menu items using standardized recipes. This position must follow requirements for appropriate food preparation and sanitation, while adhering to safety levels for compliance, quality, and cost control.
Essential Job functions
+ Adhere to Hillside’s Property and Food Services Department and regulatory agency standards to produce high-quality food for customers.
+ Perform food preparation tasks while using standardized recipes.
+ Perform a variety of cooking skills while operating kitchen equipment; such as grilling, sautéing, steaming, mixing, boiling, and other standard methods of cooking.
+ Perform tasks efficiently and effectively so all meal preparation is complete in a timely manner.
+ Maintain food safety and sanitation standards designated under health department regulations.
+ Perform general cleaning activities in all kitchen areas such as, sweeping, mopping, sanitizing counters, organizing coolers and dry storage, taking our trash and recycling, and any other duties that may arise.
+ Restock kitchen supplies; rotate food; stamp, label, and date all products; and fill out required temperature control logs to meet health department regulations.
+ Assist other team members with specified work duties as assigned – this may include driving and delivering food to assigned Hillside locations.
+ Support Hillside planned Special Events, Youth Food Demonstrations, and Youth apprenticeship Program.
+ While this job description covers many aspects of the role, employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
+ Minimum 1 year of experience in a related field required.
Special Requirements
+ Unrestricted, valid NYS driver’s license for minimum of 1 year with a clean driving record and minimum insurance coverage that meets agency standards.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

+ Knowledge of food safety practices, sanitation protocols, and proper handling of ingredients (e.g., HACCP).
+ Ability to ensure quality and consistency in every dish, from presentation to taste.
+ Ability to clearly communicate with staff to coordinate orders and service.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with all kitchen staff.
+ Ability to address any issues that arise during food preparation or service quickly and effectively.

+ Must be able to work a variable scheduling including evenings and weekends
+ The following physical demands are required:
+ Occasional sitting (up to 1 hours)
+ Frequent standing (up to 6 hour)
+ Frequent walking (up to 2 hours)
+ Occasional driving (up to 1 hours)
+ Continuous balancing (up to 8 hours)
+ Frequent balancing, bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching forward or down, reaching overhead, running, and twisting (up to 4 hours)
+ Daily lifting up to 50 lbs.
+ Manual dexterity is required, including the frequent ability to grasp in both hands and continuous use of fine manipulation skills in both hands (up to 6 hours)
+ Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, gases or chemicals is apparent.
+ Protective clothing or equipment required: gloves, slip-resistant shoes, aprons, long pants, polo
+ Ability to change positions as needed
$18.00 Minimum pay rate, $24.00 Maximum pay rate, based on experience. This pay rate may include a Regional and/or Department premium.
