Position Summary...
This is a high-impact, hands-on technical leadership role where you’ll guide architecture decisions, mentor talented engineers, and leverage cutting-edge AI/ML agent frameworks to reimagine how inventory systems operate at global scale.
At Walmart Global Tech, we’re redefining what’s possible in large-scale commerce. As a Principal Software Engineer on our International Inventory Management team, you’ll architect and deliver scalable systems that power Walmart’s operations across 23 countries—from Mexico to India to Chile.
What you'll do...
+ **Lead with Vision:** Architect and deliver distributed, event-driven microservices built with **Java, Spring Boot, Kafka** , and cloud-native design patterns.
+ **Engineer at Scale:** Design and maintain systems that balance speed, resilience, and scalability across thousands of global retail nodes.
+ **Build Intelligent Systems:**
+ Develop and integrate **ML/AI agents** capable of automating inventory analysis, forecasting, and optimization workflows.
+ Design AI-driven systems using **LangChain** and **agent orchestration frameworks** .
+ Build and operate **MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers** to power next-generation AI reasoning across inventory systems.
+ **Collaborate Across Functions:** Work with Product, Data Science, and Cloud Engineering teams to turn insights into scalable software solutions.
+ **Drive Engineering Excellence:** Champion coding best practices, mentor engineers, conduct design reviews, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
+ **Innovate:** Stay ahead of emerging technologies in **AI, distributed systems, and automation** , evaluating tools and patterns that improve system intelligence and performance.
What You’ll Bring
+ **8+ years of experience** in backend engineering, with deep expertise in **Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and microservices architecture** .
+ Proven experience designing **large-scale distributed systems** focused on performance, scalability, and fault tolerance.
+ Strong understanding of **cloud-native environments** (Azure, GCP, or AWS).
+ Hands-on experience building or integrating **LLM-based systems** , including **AI agents** and **context-aware APIs** .
+ Experience deploying and maintaining **MCP servers** or equivalent orchestration frameworks.
+ Proficiency in **API development, Node.js, and GraphQL** , and familiarity with **NoSQL databases** (Cassandra, MongoDB, etc.).
+ Demonstrated ability to **lead technical direction** , mentor teams, and deliver enterprise-scale software solutions.
+ A passion for **AI-driven automation** , innovation, and simplifying complex global problems through technology.

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
