Description
The Shin lab in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented full-time Research Specialist Technician to join our team. We are a newly established lab focused on investigating gene regulation in T cells, integrating approaches from molecular biology, immunology, and developmental biology.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to both the setup of a new research lab and the advancement of exciting scientific questions at the interface of multiple disciplines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
+ Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
+ May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
+ Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
+ Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
+ Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
+ Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Perform and maintain cell culture experiments
+ Conduct flow cytometry analysis and assist in data acquisition
+ Perform molecular biology experiments, including PCR and cloning
+ Assist with mouse colony maintenance (approximately 30–50 cages for the next 6 months)
+ Support and conduct mouse experiments, following approved protocols
+ Manage lab supply ordering and help maintain inventory and organization
+ Contribute to the day-to-day operations and ensure lab compliance with safety protocols
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Prior lab experience is preferred, especially in any of the listed techniques
+ Strong organizational and communication skills
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
+ Willingness to work with laboratory mice

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
