WSP is looking for a Structural Field Engineer to join our Construction Management team in Washington DC.
Your Impact
Position overview:
The Structural Field Engineer (SFE) will provide technical support for WMATA’s structures maintenance teams. The SFE will initially set up key processes, as approved by the Program Director and/or the designated WMATA Task Manager and then will assist with implementing those processes. The SFE will generally be responsible for providing technical assistance to the structural maintenance crews such as adherence to specifications, work instructions, methods and procedures and product data, as well as assisting with maintenance strategies for frequency and type of maintenance, and materials and equipment selection. The SFE will receive assignments and report directly to WMATA’s Program Director and/or the designated WMATA Task Manager and work on a day-to-day basis with the maintenance crews. The SFE will also interface with the Office of Engineering and Architecture (ENGA) structural engineers when new or revised repair procedures are required. Additionally, the SFE shall be required to work during hours that coincide with and support much of the maintenance work performed by WMATA occurring during nights and weekends.
Job Duties:
+ Primarily responsible for providing technical support to structural maintenance crews, including interpreting and ensuring compliance with specifications, work instructions, methods, procedures, and product data.
+ Assist in developing maintenance strategies, determining maintenance frequency and type, and selecting appropriate materials and equipment
+ Maintain regular logs of SFE technical support work
+ Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of maintenance team plans, project
+ specifications, work instructions, schedules, applicable safety regulations, and relevant design,
+ shop, and other associated drawings to stay informed about the Maintenance Department’s responsibilities, plans, and schedule
+ Provide technical support for a range of structural repairs and restoration projects, including but
+ not limited to direct fixation track support and grout pads, leak mitigation, drainage system maintenance and repairs, structural concrete patching, and other related structural components
+ Interface with ENGA’s structural engineers when new or modified repair procedures are needed
+ Develop comprehensive repair procedures as needed
+ Provide scheduling recommendations based on WMATA’s allowable work windows;
+ Monitor and support maintenance project activities in the field, providing technical assistance as needed
+ Review and analyze conditions, defects and incidents in the asset management databases (Maximo® and Optram®) to assist maintenance crews in determining the appropriate type and frequency of maintenance activities
+ Coordinate with maintenance crews and maintenance managers, potentially interfacing with the reliability team to conduct analyses that inform maintenance program decisions
+ Regularly provide recommendations to the Program Director for potential enhancements to structural asset management strategies, including maintenance and renewal initiatives.
+ Support the Program Director, maintenance team, and Transit Asset Management Office (TAMO) by contributing input to the ongoing development of the Structural Asset Management Plan
+ Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director
Who You Are
Minimum Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field or equivalent
+ 7-10 years of experience in construction and preferably maintenance of major
+ transit projects or similar infrastructure
+ Proven experience with concrete and steel structures
+ Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and repair procedures, and provide guidance to maintenance crews on document interpretation
+ Ability to proactively assist maintenance crews in selecting and deploying materials and equipment, including related construction methods and techniques
+ Ability to identify and address safety and quality concerns; and
+ Ability to coordinate with maintenance staff, communicate effectively with all parties and good interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in tunnel maintenance, including leak mitigation
+ Experience in maintaining track-beds under direct fixation track, including track-bed and drainage system cleaning, as well as grout pad renewals
+ Experience with WMATA structural repairs
+ Experience with asset management databases such as Maximo and Optram, along with incident analysis for maintenance strategy and planning

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $151,200-187,100
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
