Membership Portfolio Services, within our US Consumer Services Business, is responsible for developing and scaling several growing businesses that are strategically important to American Express. We are developing unique and differentiated ways to strengthen the Membership Model by connecting Card Members with Merchants that create opportunities to help drive our growth over the mid-to-long term.
How will you make an impact in this role?
The Director, Amex Ads Product role sits within the Amex Offers Digital Media team and reports to the VP/GM, Amex Offers Digital Media Product. This leader will drive the growth of Amex’s digital advertising network by setting strategic direction, owning the multi-year roadmap, developing new capabilities, and leading a team of product managers to deliver differentiated ad products. Amex's ad network is focused on introducing new opportunities for advertisers to engage Amex’s customers across our digital platforms (e.g., Amex Travel, Resy, Amex App).
The Director will own and shape the product roadmap for several digital capabilities (e.g., ad serving, targeting, measurement) that power Amex’s advertising products. In addition to setting strategy, this leader will mentor and guide a team of 3-5 product managers, enabling them to translate business needs into technology solutions and deliver high-quality products in partnership with engineering.
This leader will also own the evaluation and integration of external technology solutions, ensuring Amex’s capabilities remain competitive and scalable. Finally, the Director will be accountable for establishing robust compliance and risk guardrails, managing the team’s technology budget, and ensuring resources are aligned to deliver against business priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Set the strategic vision and own the **product roadmap** of several digital advertising capabilities (e.g., ad serving, targeting, measurement)
+ **Hire, lead, and develop a team of 3-5 product managers** , fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration
+ Lead the **design, development, and deployment** of advertising capabilities, collaborating across numerous platforms (e.g., Amex Travel, Resy, Amex App) and functional teams (e.g., product, technology, marketing, control management, legal)
+ Empower and guide product managers in translating business requirements into **actionable tech specifications** (e.g., features, user stories) for engineering teams
+ **Oversee execution and delivery** , ensuring strategic prioritization, active backlog management, and effective communication of progress and risks to senior leadership
+ Own the **evaluation, integration, and lifecycle management of external tech solutions** to fill internal capability gaps
+ Enact comprehensive **compliance / risk processes & controls** and lead the **New Product Approval** (NPA) process when launching new capabilities
+ Lead the annual **tech resourcing & budgeting** process for the Amex Ads Product team and actively manage tech funding to ensure proper utilization
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s Degree
+ 8 years of digital product management and/or product development experience, with at least 3 years of managing teams
+ Proven track record of defining and executing product vision, strategy, and roadmaps at scale
+ Experience leading agile technology teams (e.g., software engineers) and translating business requirements into actionable tech specifications
+ Demonstrated success in building, leading, and developing high-performing product teams
+ Exceptional problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, with a keen ability to understand technical systems, identify issues, and develop effective solutions
+ Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior leaders
+ Strong collaboration and relationship management skills, with ability to drive alignment across a diverse set of stakeholders
+ Customer-centric mindset with strong business acumen
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience in the advertising industry, ideally within a Commerce Media Network
+ Experience owning and scaling adtech digital capabilities
+ Deep knowledge of digital advertising ecosystems (e.g., ad serving, SSPs, DSPs, targeting, measurement)
+ Experience managing third-party vendor relationships and integrations
Qualifications
Salary Range: $144,250.00 to $256,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
