    About the Role

    Reporting to the Vice President, Token Solutions, this Director will be responsible for shaping the strategic vision and governance framework for American Express Token Solutions. This role requires a unique dual ability to operate under ambiguity, developing a strategic vision with blue-sky thinking, while simultaneously providing structure and governance to the product development lifecycle. You will understand the industry landscape and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define the strategic Token roadmap, including linkages between Tokens and Passkeys, Stablecoins, Identity, etc. The Director will be a visible enterprise leader, responsible for leading Token forums, elevate token strategy visibility with senior executives, and ensure a strong controls and compliance environment. The Director, Token Product Strategy & Governance, will be responsible for building a team of talented product managers.

     

    How will you make an impact with this role?

    Strategy & Vision

    + Identify and drive strategic linkages across products (e.g., payment tokens with passkeys, stablecoins, and other digital identity/payment solutions).

    + Shape and communicate a forward-looking vision that aligns tokenization with enterprise priorities and industry innovation.

     

    Influence enterprise-wide strategy by engaging senior leaders and cross-business stakeholders.

     

    + Design, standardize, and institutionalize governance templates and tools (customer journeys, data flows, milestone plans, etc.) for consistent adoption across the product organization.

    + Establish secure and accessible repositories for governance documents, ensuring proper storage, access, and change management.

    + Support product governance requirements, ensuring compliance with enterprise standards.

    Controls & Compliance

    + Ensure a strong risk and controls environment across token solutions, proactively identifying compliance gaps and remediating them.

    + Maintain oversight of product governance activities to ensure alignment with internal policies and regulatory expectations.

    Enterprise Engagement

    + Lead enterprise-wide forums to elevate token visibility and foster cross-functional alignment.

    + Act as a trusted advisor and thought leader, representing token strategy to senior executives, governance committees, and external stakeholders.

    Leadership

    + Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team of product professionals.

    + Foster a culture of strategic thinking, accountability, and collaboration.

    + Develop talent through coaching, performance feedback, and leadership opportunities.

    Requirements/Qualifications

    + **Experience** : 10 years in global payments, digital products, or strategy roles, with proven ability to connect cross-functional strategies and manage governance frameworks.

    + **Strategic mindset** : Demonstrated ability to anticipate industry trends, operate under ambiguity, and drive “blue sky” thinking into actionable strategies.

    + **Governance expertise** : Experience building and scaling governance models, compliance frameworks, and enterprise-wide templates.

    + **Leadership** : Strong people leadership skills with experience developing teams and driving engagement.

    + **Influence & Communication** : Excellent executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders, present complex strategies simply, and drive consensus.

    + **Collaboration** : Proven success leading across complex organizations and balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders.

    Qualifications

    Salary Range: $144,250.00 to $256,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
