    ABOUT THIS ROLE

    As a Lead Software Development Engineer, it’s up to you to define, design and refine the tech that keeps us one step ahead of listeners. Anticipate. Innovate. Bring challenging ideas and we’ll support you with the latest tech, tools and systems that you need to succeed. You’ll be essential in ensuring the team can reach their potential; working closely with them, reviewing their work, mentoring, and supporting them to develop. Together, you’ll build and maintain our platform to bring thousands of stories to millions of listeners and unleash the power of the human voice.

    Joining our team provides the unique challenge and opportunity to deliver software that benefits many customers around the world. Marketing Technology (MarTech) team's mission is to develop systems and tools that enable marketers to provide customers multi-touch, personalized and timely messages that enhance the experience of using our services. Customer journey automation and real-time targeting are examples of systems that the team works on. These systems are built using technologies and products from AWS like Kinesis, S3, EMR, Elastic Search, etc.

     

    As a Lead Software Development Engineer, you will...

     

    - Independently lead complex technical initiatives within your team

     

    - Mentor and lead developers by cultivating curiosity and deep technical understanding

     

    - Explore technical needs and bring solutions to the table

     

    - Set the technical strategy for your team

     

    - Collaborate with stakeholders to imagine, design, develop, test, and launch scalable and maintainable software that impacts our customers and inspires your peers

     

    - Independently clarify technical requirements, assessing development estimates and apply a broad range of design approaches

     

    - Drive continuous improvement of software quality, customer experience, and maintainability of products/features

     

    - Stay on top of technology trends, tools, and approaches

    Basic Qualifications

    - 4+ years of software development experience

     

    - 3+ years of programming using a modern programming language such as Java, C++, or C#, including object-oriented design experience

     

    - 2+ years of contributing to new and current systems architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) experience

     

    - Experience reading and understanding complex code

     

    - Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers

    Preferred Qualifications

    - Proficient in a broad range of data structures and algorithms, knowing when it is (and isn’t) appropriate to use them

     

    - History of assuming responsibility for a team’s architecture and providing a system-wide view to stakeholders

     

    - Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate highly complex and ambiguous situations independently

     

    - Able to make improvements to the team’s development and testing processes

     

    - Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate highly complex and ambiguous situations

     

    - Experience building and delivering software systems to internal or external customers

     

    - Knowledge of AWS or similar cloud-based infrastructure and/or developer tools

     

    - Strong verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective messaging with both technical and non-technical audiences

     

    - A high-quality bar: documentation, unit testing, code reviews, test automation, continuous integration & deployment. Enthusiasm for instilling this attitude in others

     

    - Adaptable, enterprising, and willing to take ownership

    - Able to make improvements to the team’s development and testing processes

    - Able to establish good working relationships with peers. Able to recognize discordant views and take part in constructive dialogue to resolve them

     

    - Able to mentor teammates on team software, team culture, and customer obsession

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
