The Medical Laboratory Scientist I plays a crucial role in supporting diagnostic testing and treatment decisions by performing waived, moderate, and high-complexity tests in various clinical laboratory sections. The scientist collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, working under the supervision of the lab supervisor to produce accurate and timely laboratory results.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct clinical laboratory analyses on blood and other specimens.
+ Operate and maintain sophisticated lab equipment and instruments.
+ Perform phlebotomy when required, across all patient age groups.
+ Follow pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical procedures.
+ Monitor and document quality control, calibration, and maintenance activities.
+ Identify and troubleshoot issues affecting test performance.
+ Participate in proficiency testing and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
+ Maintain and update laboratory policies and procedure manuals.
+ Ensure test results are not released until all corrective actions are completed and systems are within specifications.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
+ MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification required.
+ 3+ years of clinical lab experience preferred.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
+ Attention to detail and accuracy.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
+ Familiarity with laboratory information systems (Epic and Siemens) and equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with Epic and Siemens systems.
+ Knowledge of molecular biology and medical technology.
+ Experience as a generalist in clinical laboratory settings.
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:15 am to 3:45 pm, with no on-call or weekend hours required. The laboratory is one of the most accredited in the state of PA, handling specimens from four surrounding hospitals, offering a valuable opportunity for those seeking generalist experience.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $68.00/hr.
