Job Title: Test Technician
Job Description
As a Test Technician, you will be responsible for preparing vehicles for crash tests. Each vehicle takes approximately 5-7 days to prepare, with one crash test conducted daily. Technicians work in two main areas: Drain & Paint and Instrumentation.
Responsibilities
+ Drain & Paint: Weigh the vehicle using a floor scale and record the data.
+ Drain the vehicle's fluid and refill with testing fluid.
+ Use a hydraulic lift to access the vehicle's underbody.
+ Apply a stray powder coat paint to the underbody using a 'paint by the person' diagram.
+ Maintain cleanliness of the work station before and after shifts.
+ Instrumentation: Assemble testing equipment onto the vehicle through welding and fabrication.
+ Perform pre/post component assembly, disassembly, instrumentation, and measurements.
+ Wire test boxes to vehicles.
Essential Skills
+ 1+ year of hands-on automotive experience, including component removal, fuel draining, oil changing, and basic body repair.
+ Proficiency with hand tools and power tools, including die grinders, wrenches, and drills.
+ Experience using a hydraulic lift.
+ A strong passion for the automotive industry.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ 6+ months of basic fabrication experience.
+ Welding experience.
+ Experience with FARO arm technology.
+ A degree or coursework in Automotive Technology from community colleges such as MIAT College of Technology, Henry Ford, Jackson Community College, or Washtenaw Community College.
Work Environment
The work environment is primarily a clean, temperature-controlled shop with high ceilings for excellent ventilation and bright lighting. The shop is divided into two areas: Paint & Drain and Instrumentation. The Paint & Drain area functions like a garage specifically for painting and draining, which may get dirty from the painting process. Ear plugs are not required as the environment is generally quiet except during crash tests. The first shift runs from 7 am to 4 pm, with the possibility of starting an hour earlier.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $25.00/hr.
