Job Title: Chemical Plant Technician
Job Description
This role involves the efficient operation of a specialty chemicals plant, working primarily with powdered chemicals used in polymer production. The position requires the ability to work at elevated heights and involves consistent movement between four levels of the facility.
Responsibilities
+ Ensure the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation of the plant, including utilities, bulk storage, and warehouse.
+ Operate plant machinery and equipment, performing repetitive tasks and maintaining stationary positions for extended periods.
+ Open and close valves, monitor instrumentation panels, and report findings from gauges.
+ Dump 10-kilo bags into containers, utilize basic math skills, and track and monitor plant data according to procedures.
+ Climb ladders and operate forklifts while performing manual duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
+ Stay current on operating procedures, emergency procedures, and safety policies.
+ Move about the premises, often exposed to elements and weather conditions.
+ Communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.
+ Use forklifts, industrial scales, power tools, and hand tools to perform maintenance as needed.
+ Troubleshoot minor maintenance defects, with some electrical experience preferred.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in machine operation, measurement, and mechanical functions.
+ Experience in chemical or batch mixing and processing.
+ Capability in troubleshooting and handling mechanical equipment.
+ Familiarity with safety protocols and general production processes.
+ Ability to perform heavy lifting and general labor tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Previous chemical experience is not required; open to trainable candidates.
+ Manufacturing background, ideally in process manufacturing.
+ Perfect safety track record and no attendance issues in previous roles.
+ Experience in a heavy industrial role is preferred.
+ Ability to wear a respirator and work in environments where one is used.

Work Environment
The work environment includes a multi-level chemical plant with various physical demands, such as climbing four stories and exposure to elements when moving between buildings. Employees will work in a clean room and other areas with metal grading. The role involves exposure to hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals, dust, noise, fluctuating temperatures, and potentially flammable and toxic materials. Shifts currently run for 8 hours, rotating every 2 weeks between 1st and 2nd shifts. An upcoming shift schedule change will introduce a 3-on, 2-off, 2-on pattern with 12-hour shifts, rotating days to nights every 2 weeks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Chesterfield, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
