We are seeking a skilled and motivated scientist who can help advance a highly collaborative drug discovery and development team in the Obesity research group in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will use their deep understanding of the peripheral control of energetics and energy balance supporting early discovery efforts. You will be responsible for evaluating and experimentally validating novel targets relevant to body weight regulation, particularly peripheral targets in metabolic organs and leading the implantation of in vivo metabolic labeling experiments to understand nutrient homeostasis during obesity and weight loss. Your ability to make data-driven decisions and recommendations will allow you to make a significant impact on our obesity pipeline.

    Responsibilities:

+ Provide strong scientific and technical leadership to assess new targets and generate and test hypotheses relevant for therapeutic approaches to treat metabolic diseases with an emphasis on obesity.

+ Be hands-on in the laboratory to leverage and develop in vivo and in vitro systems to generate critical data supporting new and existing programs. Must be highly familiar with gold-standard models and systems used in the investigation of mitochondrial function, metabolic tracing and flux, body weight, energetics and/or food intake regulation.

+ Function independently, work within a team-oriented lab environment and work within cross-functional project teams.

+ Provide supervision and mentoring to 1-2 scientists, performance evaluation and career development.

+ Requirement for accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats. Will perform work in full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities in the timeframe specified.

    Basic Qualifications/Requirements:

+ Ph.D. in physiology, molecular biology, pharmacology, or a closely related field with 2+ years of postdoctoral training

    Additional Skills/Preferences:

+ Experience performing in vivo metabolic tracing experiments in the quantitation of nutrient utilization in obesity including/but not limited to stable isotopes

+ Knowledge of computational methods of metabolic flux analysis and modeling

+ Working knowledge of mass spectrometry and technical instrumentation necessary for in vivo isotope analysis

+ Familiarity with ex vivo and in vitro assessment of energetics and metabolism including measurements of mitochondrial function and substrate labeling approaches

+ Strong interpersonal skills and sustained tendency for collaboration. Ability to prioritize activities across multiple projects independently and effectively.

+ Strong communication skills and experience presenting data to internal and external partners and teams.
