    Position description

    The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA has an immediate opening for an Assistant Project Scientist with expertise on lipid metabolism, genetics and mouse physiology. The candidate will primarily be responsible for investigating the role of cholesterol transporters in adipocyte lipid metabolism.

     

    The successful candidate will participate in project design and management; develop and validate assays, protocols and platforms that fit in the general strategic objectives of the laboratory; develop SOPs, assays, and appropriate controls; train employees; compile and present experimental results to the project team; prepare publications and present experimental results at scientific meetings. He/she should be able to work collaboratively with other areas as part of an interdepartmental project team.

     

    The applicant must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics or Physiology and with an emphasis on metabolism, and must have 4+ years of experience in animal physiology, assessment of soluble analytes, and metabolic flux assays. Demonstrated assay development experience, research independence, and technical competence in mouse models of metabolism are desired. The candidate must have excellent communication, interpersonal skills and organizational skills.
