    We are looking for a Principal Solution Architect - Machine and System Connectivity to join our Digital Farming operations team.

    We are seeking a Principal Solution Architect for Machine and System Connectivity to play a key role in developing and implementing our service offerings within the North American and global markets. The ideal candidate is motivated to assume responsibility and is committed to making a meaningful contribution to the advancement of agriculture. You will oversee all connectivity solutions related to farm machinery, in-field sensors, drone platforms and third-party software integrations for our worldwide Field Manager platform. You will also be responsible for translating business requirements into effective technical solutions for both external clients and internal teams.

     

    As a Principal Solution Architect - Machine and System Connectivity (Field), you create chemistry by...

     

    + Converting Digital Farming business needs into IT requirements and technical solutions focused on farm machinery and third-party system integration, applying your strong business insight and broad engineering background across the software development lifecycle.

    + Overseeing the conception, design, development, testing, operation, and refinement of the DF IT Solution architecture for machine and system connectivity in the North American market. Your responsibilities include managing all required components, their interfaces and relationships—including embedded software elements—and supporting both the global strategy and rollout.

    + Defining strategic functional targets and leading the functional assets for our technical exchange infrastructure with external partners (APIs / contracts) especially in the Americas.

    + Contributing to the advancement of BASF’s Digital Farming strategy, supporting both business development and the ongoing evolution of digital architecture within the organisation.

    + Being responsible for ensuring the reliable, efficient, and cost-effective management and processing of business data and services, ensuring fulfillment of respective tasks on time and within budget.

    + Ensuring a smooth technical realization of Digital Farming by applying established methods and tools.

    + Facilitating the adoption of market requirements for both existing and upcoming product offerings.

    + Providing support for the global product roll-out.

    + Being involved in all stages of the product governance and development lifecycle, including preparing architectural documentation, drafting epics and user stories, and supporting sprint planning within our agile development framework as needed.

    + Collaborating closely with product managers, solution architects, software developers, and the commercial operations team.

     

    If you...

     

    + Hold a Master’s degree in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, GIS or related fields.

    + Have 10+ years of professional experience in the technical Ag domain.

    + Are proficient, through practical experience, in implementing business requirements for data driven, customer facing IT-solutions on a global enterprise scale ideally in an Agricultural and Digital Farming related area.

    + Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills ideally with profound knowledge in scalable system architectures and product solution design.

    + Demonstrate a deep understanding of how all components of an IoT system work together including sensors, devices, edge computing, networking, cloud platforms and user interfaces.

    + Have a solid grasp of embedded systems and hardware including microcontrollers, sensor technology and how hardware integrates with software.

    + Know how to leverage big data analytics and machine learning to extract actionable insights, perform predictive analytics and enable automation.

    + Showcase a deep understanding of wireless connectivity protocols and capabilities including WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, Cellular and Satellite systems.

    + Have experience working with widely deployed ag enterprise software platforms including Telus (Agrian, AgX, CDMS), SSI Agvance, Ever.ag(Fieldalytics), AgWorld, AgVend, Helena Agri-Intelligence and others.

    + Possess working experience in Ag machine data standards, CAN-BUS and ISOBUS, APIs and connectivity solutions as well as embedded software components would be of advantage.

    + Have strong experience in project management with a focus on software and system development.

    + Have experience in working in a DevOps oriented, agile software development environment with good knowledge of enterprise grade application development and cloud-based architectures.

    + Show excellent communication and analytical skills to build and maintain good working relationships across the entire organization and in a diverse and global team, demonstrating an ability to address and resolve difficult situations quickly even under time pressure.

    + Demonstrate an open-minded mentality and ability to challenge the status quo.

    + Have fluency in English (mandatory). German or a second foreign language would be a benefit.

    Pay transparency

     

    BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $150,000- $206,250. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
