The City of Littleton has an opening for a Revenue & Sales Tax Technician. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate taxpayer records, processing tax payments and applications, and contributing to the city's financial stability.
The ideal candidate has a background in accounting, loves analyzing the numbers and solving puzzles, and has a blend of technical skills and excellent customer service. The ability to explain complex information in an easy to-understand way for customers who may not understand tax regulations is a must.

Hiring pay range $30.83 - $32.45 per hour
This full-time position is non-exempt per FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
**Work Schedule:** This full-time position will work in person at the office, Monday through Friday.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Assists taxpayers and businesses either in person, via e-mail or telephone with questions concerning business and sales/use tax license applications; answer general sales tax inquiries.
+ Responsible for issuing business and sales/use tax licenses.
+ Processes mail for sales tax.
+ Creates, sends and reviews notices to taxpayers when accounts are delinquent and perform necessary follow-up notices.
+ Receives sales tax payments; batches payments; reviews payments, posts batch payments to the sales tax system.
+ Prepares daily reports summarizing sales tax receipts through the lockbox, ACH, credit card payments and over the counter/mail. Reconciles deposits and prepares journal entries as necessary.
+ Reconciles sales tax receipts from sales tax system to general ledger monthly and prepares journal entry.
+ Processes requests for sales tax refunds.
+ Establishes and maintains sales and use tax account records including taxpayer contact information and record of correspondence.
+ Scans sales tax returns to internal storage location.
+ Performs analysis of the city's sales/use tax collections, comparing and contrasting the information to prior periods, identifying industry and location variances, and providing insights into those variances.
+ Investigates and maintains new and terminated accounts, updates address and filing frequency changes as needed.
+ Transfers sales tax return data and payment from miscellaneous account to customer’s account as needed.
+ Plans and arranges workload and establishes priorities to complete scheduled, assigned work within the parameters and deadlines assigned by supervisor.
+ Provides back-up assistance to finance technicians on an as needed basis.
+ Performs other assignments and projects as required.
+ May serve as an Emergency Worker.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Associate degree or completion of two (2) years of college-level courses in general accounting; and
+ Two years of directly related work experience as an Accounts Payable/Account Receivable/Sales Tax Technician, or a closely related position; or
+ An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.

+ Experience with Workday
+ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,** **ABILITIES:
+ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to provide exceptional customer service for internal and external customers.
+ Knowledge of the principles and practices of general accounting and bookkeeping.
+ Strong technical skills including Microsoft Office Suite with ability to learn and apply new technology.
+ Ability to think critically when reviewing and compiling information and to express those thoughts, ideas, conclusions, and recommendations clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
+ Ability to effectively handle conflict situations with customers and maintain good working relationships while protecting the city’s interest.
+ Ability to research and perform mathematical computations.
+ Ability to interpret city code and enforcement.
+ Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
+ Ability to perform other similar assignments and projects as assigned.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL** **ACTIVITIES:
+ Work is performed indoors in a standard office environment.
+ Long periods of sitting, standing or walking may be required.
+ Occasionally lifting and carrying of files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds with or without assistance.
