    Description

    Lee County is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and highly motivated Development Services Inspector to join ourCommunity Development Department. This is a key position within the Development Services Section, responsible forconducting inspections of complex development projects to ensure compliance with approved, development orders plans,and applicable regulations.

     

    The Inspector plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, quality, and integrity of site development throughout unincorporated Lee County.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    As a Development Services Inspector, you will:

    + Perform site inspections at various stages of construction to ensure substantial compliance with approved development order drawings and applicable codes.

    + Inspect roadways, drainage systems, bulkheads, potable water and sewer systems, and other infrastructure improvements.

    + Conduct pre-construction, active construction, and final inspections.

    + Enforce the Lee County Land Development Code and other relevant ordinances throughout the construction process.

    + Evaluate and review as-built drawings for project closeouts.

    + Conduct quarterly inspections of mining operations and plant facilities.

    + Maintain detailed inspection reports, photographic records, and daily logs.

    + Prepare technical documentation, including letters of substantial completion.

    + Participate in public meetings and present findings as needed.

    + Provide technical assistance to internal departments, developers, consultants, and property owners.

    + Manage special projects and assist with continuous improvement initiatives.

    + Collaborate with engineers, developers, and county staff to resolve field conflicts using sound judgment and technical expertise.

    Education, Experience, Licensing

    Minimum Qualifications

    + High school diploma or GED equivalent.

    + Four (4) years of experience in construction, engineering inspection, land use planning, development design/review, or a closely related field.

    + Possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

    + Ability to obtain and maintain MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) certification.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + College coursework or degree in civil engineering, construction management, land use planning, or a related field.

    + Knowledge of Lee County’s Land Development Code and permitting processes.

    + Working knowledge of:

    + Civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering principles

    + Site layout and infrastructure design

    + Utility systems (potable water, sewer, stormwater)

    + Zoning and environmental planning

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), ArcGIS, and inspection databases.

    + Experience interpreting engineering and site plans, plats, and technical drawings.
