    We have an exciting opportunity for a **Senior Aerospace Textile Engineer** to join the team with Barrios Technologies, a teammate company.

     

    We are actively searching for qualified candidates for this potential opening; however, we do not have assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. Because we have strong reason to believe the position will be approved soon, we are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews.

    The **Senior Aerospace Textile Engineer** will:

    + Support various NASA programs by providing non-metallic and fibrous materials expertise for the selection of soft goods exposed to different atmospheres, high vacuum, and extreme temperatures. This support applies to any type of soft goods: semi-rigid plastics, films, textiles, nonwovens, and their finishing treatments.

    + Provide technical leadership on development of non-metallic material and fibrous materials (i.e. films, textiles, nonwovens) to use in Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) development for various NASA programs, this includes space suit materials, spacecraft interior hardware, inflatable structure, as well as hygiene and sanitation for lunar and Martian environments.

    + Serve as a subject matter expert in textile materials, guiding the design, development, and qualification of advanced softgoods for next-generation lunar and Martian space suits.

    + Provide technical support related to non-metallic and fibrous materials for R&D activities under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) NASA programs.

    + Review NASA reports, requirement documents, proposals, conference papers, journal articles related to non-metallic and fibrous materials.

    + Support NASA Materials and Processes (M&P) engineers with respect to the evaluation and selection of non-metallic and fibrous materials.

    + Perform testing and characterization on non-metallic materials as needed.

    + Perform other duties as required.

    Requisition Qualifications:

    This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

     

    + Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master’s degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience.

    + BS or higher education in Textile Engineering, Fiber Science, Material Science and Engineering, or related field.

    + Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in textile manufacturing industry.

    + Strong understanding of textiles and the textile manufacturing industry - from fiber and yarn formation to fabric construction, coating, lamination, and finishing.

    + Proven experience in textile product development and scale-up from prototype to production.

    + Solid knowledge of fiber properties, textile structures (woven, knit, nonwoven), and their associated manufacturing methods.

    + Hands-on experience with textile testing and performance evaluation per ASTM, AATCC, ISO, or equivalent standards.

    + Ability to analyze test data and translate performance requirements into material design improvements and process adjustments.

    + Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, including materials, systems, and mechanical engineers.

    + Strong problem-solving, organization, and multitasking skills within a fast-paced environment.

    + Effective communicator with the ability to clearly document technical results and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.

    Requisition Preferences:

    + Prior experience on textiles for aerospace, defense, or other high-performance applications is highly desirable; experience with space suit materials is a plus

    Essential Functions

    Work Environment

     

    Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

    Physical Requirements

    Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

     

    Equipment and Machines

     

    Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

     

    Attendance

     

    Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
