    This position requires to be working in office, 3 days per week, from our Bala Cynwyd, PA office.

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a highly analytical and systems-savvy Senior Manager of Data Science to join our Accounting Team. This role is critical to unlocking efficiencies and insights from our financial data housed in SAP, a homegrown POS system, and other disparate sources. The ideal candidate will be passionate about solving real-world accounting challenges through data science, automation, and smart tooling, eliminating the current reliance on manual Excel processes and accelerating the monthly close process. This role is your opportunity to drive transformation at the intersection of finance and technology. You will help redesign how our accounting teams work — freeing them from spreadsheets, surfacing new insights, and embedding smarter, scalable processes into the foundation of our business.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Data Integration & Automation

    + Design and implement robust data pipelines that extract, transform, and load (ETL) financial data from SAP, POS systems, and related platforms into usable structures for accounting teams.

    + Automate recurring reports, reconciliations, and journal entry validation tasks currently performed in Excel.

    + Close Process Optimization

    + Develop tools and scripts to support faster, more accurate month-end and quarter-end closes.

    + Collaborate with accounting staff to identify bottlenecks and manual handoffs and implement data-driven solutions to streamline workflows.

    + Error Detection & Exception Reporting

    + Build anomaly detection models to proactively flag irregular transactions, potential data mismatches, and process errors across systems.

    + Create dashboards and exception reports to drive quality and accuracy of financial results.

    + Business Partnership

    + Work closely with Accounting, FP&A, and IT teams to understand requirements and pain points, and translate them into technical solutions.

    + Provide training, tools, and visualizations to help accounting staff interact with data directly.

    + Governance & Documentation

    + Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of financial data sources.

    + Develop comprehensive documentation of processes, assumptions, and data flow to support compliance and audit needs.

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; Master’s Degree preferred.

    + 5+ years of experience in data science, data engineering, or analytics with a focus on financial/accounting systems.

    + Strong hands-on experience with SAP ERP (especially FI/CO modules) and custom or proprietary POS systems.

    + Proficient in Python, SQL, and Excel; experience with Power BI, Alteryx, or similar tools a plus.

    + Demonstrated ability to understand complex financial data and accounting processes.

    + Proven track record of simplifying manual workflows through automation and system integration.

    + Strong communication and stakeholder management skills – able to serve as a bridge between Finance and IT.
