Job Description
Optum is seeking a scheduler/patient care coordinator to support checkout out for the Gastrointestinal department/ clinic located in Laguna Hills, CA. This individual will be primarily responsible for patient check-out following specialist visits and will manage scheduling for GI procedures for 5 physicians and follow-up appointments. Additional responsibilities include: Handling and requesting authorizations (for HMO and PPO plans), sending out packages and paperwork to the outpatient facilities, some patient outreach for individuals who have not yet scheduled their procedures or follow-up visits, coordinating medical clearance and pre-op requirements, obtaining authorizations, phone line operation, patient registration, insurance verification, and record scanning.
Candidates must be flexible and comfortable with occasional overtime, particularly when providers extend their hours beyond 5:00 PM (if the provider is running late).
The clinic utilizes the Epic EMR system. Training will be provided, and candidates must be willing to attend two in-person training sessions at the Epic training sites in Cypress or Irvine or may have the opportunity to participate remotely from the designated clinic location if available.

Skills and Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- 1+ years of experience in a clinical front desk or scheduling role
- Personable, hardworking, enthusiastic, coachable, and willing to learn and grow. - Bilingual English + Spanish or English + Vietnamese
- Experience with Epic EMR system
- Experience working within GI (gastroenterology)
