Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Construction Trainer/Teacher for our non-profit vocational training client based in Portland, Maine. The Construction Trainer plays a key role in the YouthBuild program, a nationally recognized academic, vocational and leadership development initiative serving youth ages 16-24 who have not found success in traditional educational settings. This role combines hands-on construction training with mentorship, supporting students as they build both professional skills and personal confidence. The position also involves supervising students in the construction and rehabilitation of low-income housing, as well as the completion of other external construction projects, aligning vocational learning with meaningful community impact. This role requires developing individual relationships with youth and focusing on their education, as well as personal and professional growth. Successful individuals will also be able to collaborate effectively with a variety of external partners and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead Instruction: Deliver high-quality, hands-on construction skills instruction in the classroom, construction shop and in the field that is aligned with the NCCER curriculum
• Jobsite Management: Plan and execute safe, skills-aligned jobsite projects in conjunction with YB Program Director and external partners
• Safety & Supervision: Ensure safety and proper use of tools and equipment; model industry best practices
• Curriculum Management: Plan and implement daily lessons, weekly objectives, and long-term construction project schedules
• Student Support: Provide direct supervision, coaching, mentorship and feedback to students in both classroom and field settings; tailor support based on student needs
• Behavioral Expectations: Set and uphold high standards of conduct, participation, and performance across all training environments.
• Partnership Development: Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners in construction, housing, and workforce development sectors
• Administrative Duties: Submit accurate and timely reports on attendance, assessments, certifications, and budgeting.
• Attend required meetings and all other duties as regularly assigned
This position is ideally a full-time salaried position, with a normal working schedule of around 7:30 am-3:30 pm in the afternoon. The work environment for this role consists of 80% direct student interaction (meetings, mentoring, teaching, jobsite supervision, etc.) and 20% administrative work (lesson planning, project planning, data entry, staff meetings, etc.)

Skills and Requirements
- Experience teaching/training youth in some capacity (construction vocation preferred)
- Construction industry experience (Construction Project Management, Skilled Construction Trade, etc.)
- Proficiency using tools and project management software
- Mathematics Skills
- Interest and passion for working with youth - NCCER Instructor Qualification
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in a related industry (Construction Management, Engineering, Skilled Trades, etc.)
- Experience as a vocational teacher (i.e., woodshop, construction, etc.)
