• Systems Engineer III (Austin)

    Job Description

    This role supports the Data Center Services, specifically focused on Run & Maintain operations. These openings are backfills resulting from organizational changes. Engineers will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting core infrastructure services in a Linux-heavy virtualized environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support day-to-day operations of Linux-based data center environments

    • Manage and maintain virtualized environments including:

     

    --VMware

     

    --OpenStack

    --Kubernetes & OpenShift

    • Provide support for load balancing services:

     

    --Current: Avi Load Balancer

    --Future migration: F5 Load Balancer

    • Work and resolve ~10 tickets per week, ranging from simple requests to multi-day efforts

    • Execute system patching, upgrades, and service creation

    • Collaborate with cross-functional infrastructure and application teams to troubleshoot issues

    • Participate in larger infrastructure initiatives that may fall outside the ticketing system

    • Contribute to after-hours maintenance windows as needed

    Technical Environment

    • Operating Systems: Linux (primary), with strong administration experience required

    • Virtualization & Containerization: VMware, OpenStack, Kubernetes, OpenShift

    • Load Balancing: Avi (current), F5 (future)

    • Scripting/Automation: Ansible, Python (preferred), PowerShell (VMware only, minimal)

    • Ticketing System: JIRA (simple implementation- no advanced skills required)

    • Security: Strong understanding of data center security best practices; firewall experience is a plus

    Skills and Requirements

    • 5+ years of experience in enterprise Linux administration and virtualized environments

    • Advanced troubleshooting skills across VMware, OpenStack, and Kubernetes/OpenShift

    • Scripting/automation capabilities (Python, Ansible)

    • Ability to troubleshoot infrastructure issues and respond to service requests

    •Familiarity with load balancers and security practices (firewalls a plus) Local to Austin, TX

    Compensation: $40/hr to $45/hr

    **Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
