Summary About the Position: You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic at Harlan County Lake under the supervision of higher graded employees performing Laborer, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, pesticide, small water craft operation and mobile equipment servicer duties. Responsibilities Perform digging work related to such tasks as planting of trees, building sidewalks, breaks up hard surfaces, mixes and pours concrete. Constructs, alters or repairs wood or wood substitute structures, e.g., forms for concrete, building repairs and roofing to provide a serviceable product. Makes plumbing repairs by replacing broken valves, pipes, etc. Performs digging tasks for uncovering lines and laying plumbing systems. Performs simple electrical tasks such as removing, replacing, and splicing defective wiring, equipment and fixtures. Operates and maintains pesticide equipment to control noxious weeds in campgrounds, roadsides and natural resource areas. Operates boat in connection with buoy work, emergency operations procedures, place or move courtesy boat docks, fish attractor installations, removal of trees or debris from water and similar procedures which require boat operation. Services automobile and mobile equipment by checking and maintaining proper oil, gas, and water fluid and air pressure levels and lubricates equipment. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Candidates must have the ability to perform common Maintenance Worker tasks such as: the use and operation of common hand and power tools, equipment, and/or measuring devices of the carpentry, plumbing, and/or painting trades. Must have the ability to detect simple deficiencies and perform simple preventive maintenance tasks and have the ability to work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision, Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading), Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment, Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc., Knowledge of Materials, Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic), and Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Requires standing for prolonged periods, walking, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting. Performs digging work and loads and unloads supplies and equipment. Uses heavy chains to place buoys courtesy docks and removing trees. Handles heavy or awkward items with assistance of hoisting equipment or is aided by other employees. On occasion, the above tasks will be done while wearing protective gear restricting the employee's movement and ability to perform routine functions. Working Conditions: Works outside in all types of weather, frequently in wet, icy, muddy and dirty conditions. Exposed to frequent sun and noise and other environmental conditions. Also exposed to cuts and bruises in using tools and working near moving machinery, strains while using heavy tools and equipment, slips and falls in wet or icy weather and from hoisting equipment, and the possibility of electric shock and burns. Danger of drowning exists when working over water. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
