The UW Libraries (https://lib.uw.edu/about/) has an outstanding opportunity for a Government Publications & Circulation Specialist to join their team.
About this opportunity
Under the general supervision of the Director, serves as a specialist for Government Publications and Circulation. Provides advanced support across department utilizing specialized knowledge of bibliographic systems, government document protocols, and integrated library systems (ILS). Maintains, updates, and troubleshoots library records and collections.
Regular schedule is Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm; may be scheduled days, evenings, weekends and holidays and schedule may vary during quarter breaks and summer quarter.
Duties and Responsibilities
Government Publications management:
+ Manages Government Publications. Assisting Government Publications librarians and selectors, organizes incoming materials and facilitates inventory control while maintaining compliance with Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) regulations and other retention agreements
Bibliographic and holding maintenance
+ Identifies, analyzes, and resolves complex bibliographic/holding/item record issues across Suzzallo/Allen and Sand Point collections.
+ Updates and creates records, collaborates with relevant library departments for advanced solutions.
Collection maintenance:
+ Performs complex reclassification, relocation, and item maintenance. Manages inventory including handling missing and/or lost items, and withdrawals.
+ Using specialized knowledge, monitors accuracy of item record within catalog.
+ Collaborates with selector librarians and/or relevant departments for corrections.
Circulation services:
+ Provides advanced support across Access Services departments, resolves complex user and ILS record issues.
+ Serves as backup for Central Circulation Services technician duties.
+ Serves as backup for delivery and retrieval functions and Library Technician duties.
+ Participates in departmental and cross-departmental committees and task forces.
Training, documentation, and communication:
+ Develops and updates procedures in accordance with libraries’ policies and periodic changes to ILS systems.
+ Cross-trains staff within Access Services to ensure consistent workflows.
+ Participates in development of procedures and enhancements to improve workflow efficiency.
+ Works with vendor documentation to stay current on ILS trends and updates.
General:
+ Understands and abides by the Libraries Personal Communication Responsibilities.
+ Communicates appropriately, effectively and positively.
+ Plays an active role in staying informed and participating in Libraries and unit meetings, activities and events.
+ Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
+ High school graduation or equivalent AND four years of applicable library technical experience including one year of experience in the area of specialization.
+ Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
Additional requirements
+ Demonstrated commitment to customer service in a complex or high-volume environment.
+ Demonstrated attention to detail and precision.
+ Demonstrated ability to clearly explain complex services and policies in person, over the phone, and in written correspondence.
+ Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, work effectively under pressure, and handle competing deadlines and overlapping requests with minimal supervision.
+ Experience training staff or creating documentation for library workflows or systems.
+ Demonstrated commitment to promote equitable access and service to a diverse community.
Desired qualifications
+ Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word and Excel and/or Google docs and sheets
+ Familiarity with Ex Libris’ Alma and Primo systems
+ Experience managing library withdrawals, item maintenance, and collection transfers.
+ Familiarity with cataloging standards and metadata practices
+ Experience working with multiple library locations or branch collections.
Conditions of employment
+ Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
+ Must be able to lift 25-50 pound boxes and crates and push heavy book trucks.
Compensation, Benefits and Position Details
Pay Range Minimum:
$46,332.00 annual
Pay Range Maximum:
$61,920.00 annual
