    Job Summary

    TheSport Management program (https://www.kines.umich.edu/academics/sport-management) at the University of Michigan's School of Kinesiology invites applications for one or more Lecturer I position(s), appointed by semester, commencing January 1, 2026. This position is for one or two, 1.5-credit lecture sections, equating to a 12.5-25% appointment. The School is seeking candidates with a strong background in one or both of the following courses:

    Course Descriptions

    **SM 238 Introduction to Accounting, 1.5-credit hours** - A management career in business, whether related to sports or any other commercial activity, requires an understanding of finance and accounting. This course provides an introductory overview of the fundamental knowledge and computational skills required to understand and participate in financial management decisions. By the end of this course the student should be able to understand and apply the major concepts and tools used in accounting financial management, including:

    + the fundamentals of transaction accounting,

    + accounting vocabulary,

    + reading and interpretation of financial statements,

    + risk and return,

    + time value of money, including present value, future value, net present value, internal rate of return, and the discount rate, and

    + common approaches to budgeting, with a focus on making decisions about capital investments.

    **SM 239 Introduction to Financial Decision Making, 1.5-credit hours** - A management career in business, whether related to sports or any other commercial activity, requires an understanding of finance and accounting. While applying concepts to the business of sport, this course provides an introductory overview to the concepts of valuation, capital budgeting, facility planning and financing, equity and risk. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to understand how to value sports business assets and the relationship between assets and financial markets, and apply these skills to explain and predict future outcomes.

    Responsibilities*

    Instructional duties include, but are not limited to:

    + Provide high-quality instruction

    + Create and contribute to the course syllabus and lesson plan

    + Produce relevant and reliable assessment tools and conduct routine assessments to evaluate student progress throughout the semester

    + Maintain student progress and attendance records, and determine and enter final grades for the course

    + Meet with students for office hours and attend program and school meetings, as needed

    Required Qualifications*

    The successful candidate must have:

    + Earned a master's degree or higher in management, business, finance, accounting, or a related field

    + A depth of knowledge in the field of finance and/or accounting

    + Prior knowledge and experience in financial decision-making in business, preferably in the sport industry

    + Proven success with contributing to a positive workplace culture, and the ability to consistently demonstrate our school'sCore Values (https://www.kines.umich.edu/about/mission-values-leadership) .

    Desired Qualifications*

    + College-level teaching experience, which could include being a teaching assistant, instructor of a recitation course, or having primary responsibility for teaching a college-level course
