Job Summary
The University of Michigan is seeking a creative, innovative, and thoughtful individual to join its Disability Equity Office (DEO) within the Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX Office (ECRT). The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate include independently managing, reviewing, and assessing the intake of requests for disability-related accommodation requests for faculty, staff, and visitors, ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The candidate will independently review submitted medical documentation and assist more senior Accessibility Specialists by assigning complex requests while independently managing their own caseload of accommodation requests including parking and paratransit accommodation requests, CART accommodation requests, and by providing requestors including university partners, members of the public, and others with appropriate resources and supports within the Disability Equity Office and other university partners and services such as Michigan Medicine, Work Connections. Athletics etc. The successful candidate will maintain case management records and will routinely monitor case assignments and progress and records and invoices related to the CART program. The candidate will also ensure internal procedures and documents are up to date under the direct supervision of the ADA Coordinator/Director.
Responsibilities*
Essential:
Reasonable Accommodation Facilitation -** **75%
+ Use professional, independent judgment and specialized knowledge to review medical documentation provided by faculty and staff with disabilities, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 508, and relevant case law and regulatory guidance to support more senior accessibility specialists in the interactive process.
+ Provides consultative services for employees and other requestors seeking reasonable accommodations and access services by providing timely and effective responses and referrals for additional disability-related resources (e.g., SSD, DisabilityNavigators, MM HRSC, Work Connections, Rackham).
+ Maintains and independently manages a large caseload of accommodation requests, including paratransit and parking accommodation requests, stadium seatback requests, as well as institutional consultation requests from a wide variety of university stakeholders and members of the university community.
+ Answers questions received in the DEO and ADA Coordinator email boxes or facilitates their assignment to other DEO staff.
+ Routinely uses independent judgment to identify solutions to employee, student, and community member access issues, including but not limited to event accessibility, workplace access issues, physical barriers to identify resources and resolutions to these matters.
+ Provides efficient, detailed, and comprehensive case assignment, management, and tracking through the Accommodate database and other systems/documents, including recommending and implementing solutions for continual process improvement.
+ Provides highly skilled case management support in the creation and import of reasonable accommodation requests, medical documentation, and data with a high degree of accuracy.
+ Maintains highly sensitive information with discretion and good judgment to maintain privacy in compliance with all applicable laws (ADA, Title VII, etc.)
+ Engages in case audit procedures to ensure accurate casework for all case types across ADA Team's cases and documentation and follow-up to include the outcome of reasonable accommodations to ensure accurate data reports are generated for internal and external partner use.
Office Operational Assistance -** **20%
+ Provides presentation support and set-up for workshops and trainings held by the DEO, including Zoom webinar set-up support, monitoring during events, and ensuring recordings are accurately compiled to include ASL and captioning. Serves as a liaison between the DEO and the ECRT Comms team to ensure proper placement of videos on the website and happenings.
+ Maintains highly sensitive information with discretion and good judgment to maintain data privacy and confidentiality in compliance with all applicable laws (ADA, Title VII, etc.)
+ Maintain complete and accurate files and records, including documentation in the Disability Equity Office database.
+ Monitors the payment of invoices and submits payment requests for purchases for webinars, conferences, travel and other office-related needs for director and assistant directors as needed.
+ Maintains records in accordance with university record keeping requirements and internal documentation procedures.
Communication and Collaboration** **-** **5%
+ Maintains collaborative relationships with campus academic and administrative units and human resources offices to foster intentional coordination of efforts to support faculty and staff with disabilities within the campus community.
+ Ensures effective transfer of cases between university partners and collection of medical documentation as needed from university partners.

Required Qualifications*
The preferred candidate must be able to demonstrate the following required competencies:
+ Bachelor's degree with at least one year working in a complex case management system or similar disability case management position in higher education or legal environment
+ Demonstrated ability to manage high volume and time-sensitive workload and meet demanding deadlines.
+ Ability to prioritize tasks, including managing multiple matters while meeting deadlines and documenting actions consistentwith internal Disability Equity Office procedures.
+ Ability to utilize independent judgment to make decisions without direct oversight.
+ Demonstrated ability to work effectively, aligned with the university's mission and culture.
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills
+ Excellent organization skills and effective time management abilities
+ Competentinusing Microsoft Office Suite,Google Suite, Adobe, Dropbox, andcomplex databases
Desired Qualifications*
+ Knowledge of the ADAAA and reasonable accommodations in a higher education setting.
+ Experience reviewing and analyzing medical documentation.
+ Knowledge of, experience working with, and ability to apply all relevant federal and state civil rights laws, regulations, and guidance.
+ High degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
+ Ability to work in a diverse environment.
+ Flexibility to adapt to changing procedures and unit growth.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. We work in a flexible hybrid office with an expectation of at least two days in-person or as needed to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
