Academic Advisor & Student Experience Specialist (Hybrid Position)

Job Summary
TheTaubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning (https://taubmancollege.umich.edu/) has an exciting opportunity for an academic advisor & student experience specialist to join the Student Affairs team. Reporting to the director of student affairs (our organizational chart (https://intranet.tcaup.umich.edu/knowledge-base/staff-organization-chart/) ) you will advise undergraduate and graduate students and provide student success advocacy, outreach, and programming. Using holistic academic advising strategies, you will increase student retention and success. You are creative, student-centric, and committed to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
This job is situated in Ann Arbor and on-campus work is expected three days a week, with a few offsite weeks throughout the academic year and an offsite period from mid-May to mid-August.
Responsibilities*
Academic Advising
+ Provide academic advising for new and continuing undergraduate and graduate students on course selection, programs of study, and degree progression
+ Review, maintain, and update students' academic records for progress toward degree completion, compliance with degree requirements, and eligibility for graduation
+ Interpret and communicate college and university policies and procedures in response to queries related to advising matters, deadlines, questions, and curriculum clarification
+ Maintain timely and accurate records of interactions with students, referrals, exceptions to standard procedures, and decisions affecting degree progress
+ Coordinate advising processes with the Student Affairs team, faculty, and staff in the college and at the university
+ Contribute to advising analysis and reports
+ Act as a liaison to all student service and support programs/resources on campus and make appropriate referrals
+ Identify and proactively resolve issues related to advising
+ Continuously review and assist with updating advising guidelines, procedures, and processes for improving efficiencies
+ Develop fluent curriculum knowledge for Taubman academic programs
Student Experience
+ Lead orientation planning and programming for incoming students
+ Liaison to Office of New Student Programs and college's Week-at-a-Glance group
+ Serve as the primary staff liaison for Taubman College student organizations, including advising the Taubman College Student Council
+ Organize a series of student activities and co-curricular programming to support student involvement, development, well-being, and civic engagement (Coffee in the Commons, cultural celebrations, workshops)
+ Organize and produce monthly college-wide newsletter from Student Affairs (Taubman Together)
+ Prepare materials for Student Affairs sessions at college and program events (Preview, Convocation)
Team Support
+ Represent Student Affairs at college and program events (such as Preview, Commencement)
+ Participate in opportunities such as committees, task forces, working groups, etc.
+ Ongoing professional development and continuous learning
Required Qualifications*
+ Bachelor's degree
+ Some experience in counseling, academic advising, mentoring, or higher education student-facing activities
+ Intermediate experience with Google suite and Microsoft office
+ Ability to maintain the integrity of confidential materials and student information
+ Ability to occasionally work during early mornings, evenings, and weekends

Additional Information
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - 55,000. Factors used to determine salary include experience, knowledge and skills for the position. You are encouraged to discuss salary questions to honor transparency throughout the recruiting process.
