FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Curriculum and Teaching in the School of Education at Hunter College, City University of New York, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Childhood Education (Grades 1–6), to begin Fall 2026.
We seek a colleague who values the connection between scholarship and practice in teacher education, demonstrates a commitment to anti-oppressive public P-20 education, and takes a team-oriented approach to collaboration. Successful applicants will have experience teaching school-aged children in grades 1-6, be actively engaged in research related to childhood education, and have a deep commitment to supporting the preparation of future teachers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Teach undergraduate and graduate methods courses in childhood education (grades 1–6) in social studies, science, math, the arts, literacy, and/or clinical experience.
+ Maintain an active program of scholarly research and publication.
+ Participate in service to the department, School of Education, college, and broader professional community.
+ Supervise and mentor pre-service teachers during clinical experience and student teaching placements.
+ Contribute to ongoing program development and accreditation efforts.
+ May include the following: serve as course leader for clinical experience courses; advise undergraduate and/or graduate students in Childhood Education.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Earned doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Childhood Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Teacher Education, or a closely related field (ABD candidates considered if doctorate is completed by appointment start date).
+ Record of, or clear potential for, a strong research and scholarly publication agenda.
+ Commitment to culturally responsive sustaining pedagogy and equity-centered, anti-oppressive, inclusive teacher education.
+ Experience teaching childhood (grades 1–6) in diverse school settings.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Experience with college-level teaching.
+ Familiarity with New York State teacher certification requirements, including teacher performance exams such as the Hunter TPA.
+ Evidence of effective integration of technology into teaching and/or teacher education.
+ Experience teaching in New York City and demonstrated commitment to serving NYC schools and communities.
+ Experience mentoring teacher candidates in clinical field placements.
+ Student advising experience.
+ Record of building partnerships with schools and communities.
COMPENSATION
The salary range is $57,252 - $109,025.
