    ACE (Accelerate, Complete and Engage) Academic Advisor

    POSITION DETAILS

    Brooklyn College is seeking applications for the Academic Advisor position for the ACE (Accelerate, Complete and Engage) Program. Reporting to the ACE Director, the Academic Advisor is a member of an integrated college team and has the responsibility of performing comprehensive academic advisement for all ACE students. This position is a critical layer of support for the program's expansion activities, including program operations, recruitment, advisement, retention, and communication.

     

    ASAP and ACE programs help students earn their college degree as quickly as possible, by removing the financial, academic, and personal obstacles that many students confront. Key ASAP|ACE program features include a consolidated block schedule, cohorts by major, required full-time study and comprehensive advisement and career development services. Financial incentives include tuition waivers for financial aid eligible students, yearly textbook vouchers, and OMNY transportation benefit for all students.     The ACE academic advisor is a member of an integrated team providing individual academic, career and related support to an assigned group of program students, utilizing a variety of modalities, as they progress towards their associate degree. Reporting to the ACE Director, the academic advisor is responsible to carry out advisement services to their cohort of students in accordance with program policy, with the goal of retaining the maximum number of students each semester and graduating a minimum of 50% of each student cohort. The ACE academic advisor will collaborate with other program staff, as well as faculty to provide coordinated services and support student success. The academic advisor assists with all program initiatives, including special events and recruitment, if necessary.

    In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the ACE Academic Advisor’s duties include, but are not limited to the following:

    + Deliver comprehensive advisement support services to an assigned group of students through degree completion, according to campus program advisement rubric.

    + Develop individualized academic plans aligned with students’ goals, strengths, and program requirements.

    + Utilize campus degree maps to create semester by semester academic plans for freshman, continuing and/or transfer students as appropriate.

    + Assist with recruitment and onboarding of new ACE students, including orientation sessions, and transition support for incoming transfer students.

    + Consistently review student progress and provide timely interventions to keep students on track toward degree.

    + Utilize EAB Navigate to create a collaborative care network for ACE students.

    + Enter/document/track all student contact in the program and/or college student database, recommend referral and services as appropriate.

    + Collaborate with the Career Center to connect students with internships, job opportunities, and career readiness workshops

    + Run student contact queries/reports consistently to determine outreach and follow up needed to meet students with the frequency and modality required by the program.

    + Conduct workshops and group advisement on topics of relevance and interest.

    + Performs related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in an appropriate discipline and four years related experience.

    The preferred candidate will have:

    + Experience working to provide guidance, support and services to students, and in particular transfer students.

    + Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban background.

    + Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, within the department and with faculty and other administrators.

    + Strong organization, project management and facilitation skills.

    + Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of student activities.

    + Familiarity with CUNY Academic policies, degree requirements, and student information systems (eg. DegreeWorks, CUNYfirst, Navigate).

    + Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and aptitude to learn new systems as needed.

    + Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain supportive student relationships.

    The ASAP Advisor is a member of an integrated College team providing individual academic, career and related support to an assigned group of college students as they progress through the program.

     

    - Delivers comprehensive advisement support services to an assigned group of students through degree completion

     

    - Conducts workshops and group advisement on topics of relevance and interest

     

    - Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic support services

     

    - Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success

     

    - Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs

     

    - Supports annual recruitment of students

     

    - Organizes periodic special events and programs for students, faculty and staff

     

    - Performs related duties as assigned.
