Faculty Position in Immune Response to Injury, Infection, and Co-Morbidities
University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) & Shriners Children’s Texas – Galveston, TX
The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) and Shriners Children’s Texas in Galveston, Texas is seeking applications for a **tenure-track faculty position** at the **Associate Professor** level. Exceptional **Assistant Professor** candidates with current external funding or a strong trajectory toward funding will also be considered.
We seek an outstanding investigator with expertise in the **immune response to injury, infection, or co-morbidities with an emphasis on trauma** . Relevant research areas include, but are not limited to:
+ Tissue repair and remodeling to include aberrant wound healing and fibrosis
+ Inflammasome and other inflammatory mechanisms
+ Immune metabolism and regulation of injury resolution
+ Immunometabolic perturbations influencing microbial pathogenesis
The ideal candidate will have a strong record of research productivity, publications, and funding, as well as a commitment to mentoring trainees and contributing to a collaborative research environment.
The **primary academic appointment** will be in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, with a **secondary appointment** in theDepartment of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. The successful candidate will be based in the newly renovated **Shriners Children’s Texas Research Center** on the UTMB Galveston campus. **Shriners Children’s** offers research funding opportunities and other resources for projects that are relevant, innovative, and impactful for their patient population.
We seek candidates who can **bridge basic and translational research** and have a keen interest in developing **therapeutics for burn injuries, musculoskeletal disorders or trauma, and infection** . Applicants with interests in fundamental research relevant to pathophysiology of tissue or bone trauma are also encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have opportunities to collaborate with a vibrant community of biomedical scientists and to mentor students and postdoctoral fellows in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Shriners Children’s Texas is a 30-bed non-profit pediatric hospital and research center on the UTMB campus, specializing in burns, orthopedic conditions, cerebral palsy, and cleft lip/palate. The newly remodeled hospital includes an intensive care unit, reconstructive and plastic surgery services, a motion analysis center, rehabilitation department, and 13,000 square feet of research laboratory space. The secondary appointment in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation will provide opportunities to better understand clinical issues and translate findings to bedside.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD., M.D. or Doctoral equivalent in any field. Scientific research experience.
Potential exposure to radiation and biohazards. May require completion of appropriate vaccinations. Regular use of PPE required.
SALARY:
Commensurate with experience.
PHYSICAL LOCATION OF POSITION:
UTMB, Galveston Main Campus candidate will be housed within Shriners Children’s Texas Research Center on the UTMB campus.
