    Posting Description

    SENIOR RESEARCH ADMINISTRATOR, Materials Science and Engineering, reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Research Administration, administers complex pre- and/or post-award financial activities; resolves complex financial issues and advises on matters pertaining to operations/financial management for DMSE; advises and educates Principal Investigators (PI), other faculty, researchers and staff on all aspects of research administration including MIT policies, systems and federal regulations; completes the pre-award administration of grants/contracts activities such as reviewing solicitations and determining necessary components; organizes complex PI proposals, often including multi-PI and/ or multi-unit proposals; manages proposals with cost sharing, subrecipient costs, fixed-priced contracts, and managing renewal and submission applications; manages sponsored project closeout processes and audit inquiries; and submits final reports; interprets MIT and government policies such as Federal Acquisition Requisitions (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards, Office of Management and Budget circulars, and sponsored guidelines.

    Job Requirements

    REQUIRED: A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years of experience in accounting or finance or equivalent; strong communication, analysis and organizational skills; ability to learn changing technologies related to grants and contracts management; knowledge of federal guidelines; experience in academic programs and administration; ability to meet short turn-around times; comfortable with complicated calculations and creating templates; intellectually curious; ability to multitask, work both independently and as part of a team, handle deadlines and stressful situations with composure, and to process detailed-oriented work; and willingness to learn and adapt to new software tools. PREFERRED: Knowledge of and experience with MIT financial systems and sponsored accounting; excellent computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), SAP, Kuali Coeus, QuickBase, and electronic proposal submission software; and broad understanding of Cognos reports.
