    The Impact You'll Make

     

    Danfoss has a great opportunity for a Machining Process Engineering intern to gain real-world experience at our site in Ames, Iowa. This position will report directly to the Machining Operations Manager. The Machining Process Engineering intern will work closely with our Process Engineers and Technicians in the machining areas of our facility to assist in various process improvements, support project implementation, and CAD.

     

    What You’ll Be Doing

     

    Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following.

     

    • Design and optimize area layouts to enhance efficiency

    • Implement process improvements to improve safety, quality, productivity, and remove waste

    • Support the introduction of new tooling and equipment, ensuring smooth integration into existing processes

    • Participate in change management activities related to equipment upgrades or process transitions

    • Current and new product design documentation and support

    • Creating and update technical drawings and 3D models using CAD software

    • Provide detailed data collection and analysis (time studies, material flow, waste analysis)

    • Travel is not required for this position

     

    What We're Looking For

    Qualifications

    • Required (basic) qualifications

    • Major: Mechanical Engineering, Industrial, or Agricultural Engineering

    • Level of Education: Pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degree

    • Work availability – 40 hours/week during the summer months, 10-20 hours/week with flexible schedule during Fall/Spring semesters

    • Commitment to work 8 month

    Preferred qualifications

    • Internship or coop experience in an engineering or manufacturing field

    • CAD and simulation experience a plus

    • CNC machine or programming experience a plus

    • Hands-on mechanical skills and familiar with basic hand and power tool

    Job Criteria

    • Able to interact with all levels of the organization (Shop floor to Management)

    • Able to work in cross-functional teams (design, quality, production, etc.)

    • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking

    • Motivated self-starter

    • Strong organizational skills
