AIG Sonpo Japan is seeking an experienced Technical/Development Team Manager to lead a subject matter expert team, drive transformation and upgrade projects, and act as a future successor for senior leadership roles. This role requires a bilingual leader with strong technical understanding, project delivery expertise, and proven ability to manage and motivate Japanese subject matter expert teams while collaborating with engineering team, vendors and IT and business stakeholders.
This is a long-term, strategic role for candidates looking to combine hands-on technical oversight with people leadership and project execution.

Duties & Responsibilities
+ Lead and manage subject matter expert team, providing direction, coaching, and motivation while ensuring collaboration with engineering team, vendors and internal stakeholders.
+ Oversee and execute transformation projects, immediate focus will be technology upgrades , bringing engineering mindset to solve the problem and in a long term including application rationalization (slimming down from ~50 apps to 10–20 through consolidation and decommissioning).
+ Deliver cloud migration initiatives, moving applications to AWS Cloud with a focus on scalable, cost-effective architectures.
+ Partner with user-facing and business teams to ensure seamless delivery of customer-facing systems.
+ Act as a bridge between management and technical teams, ensuring clear communication, problem-solving, and effective project execution.
+ Prepare to act as a successor to the current leadership role, with the ability to step up into a senior manager role in the future.
+ Maintain oversight of development standards, code quality, and best practices while ensuring security, compliance, and performance optimization.

+ Smooth cloud migration delivery on AWS environments.
+ Building a strong, collaborative team culture, ensuring high productivity and retention.
+ Driving innovation and problem-solving across vendor and internal teams.
+ Acting as a trusted deputy to senior management, ready to assume higher responsibilities.
Required Technical & Leadership Skills
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
+ 10+ years of IT/development experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or team management capacity.
+ Proven track record delivering transformation/upgrade projects, ideally in insurance, financial services, or large-scale enterprise systems.
+ Strong knowledge of AWS Cloud services, serverless architecture, and database migration/tuning (Oracle, PostgreSQL).
+ Background in Java, Spring Boot, Angular enterprise systems (hands-on not mandatory but strong technical understanding required).
+ Experience working on application rationalization projects (merging/decommissioning apps).
+ Strong people management skills with proven success leading Japanese engineering teams.
+ Bilingual – Japanese (N1/N2) and English (business fluent).
